Advancing design and innovation in MotoGP
Siemens Digital Industries Software has renewed its technical partnership agreement with Ducati Corse(“ Ducati”) for the next two years.
“ The Siemens Xcelerator platform has been instrumental in helping Ducati to achieve its mission of creating increasingly powerful, safe and sustainable motorcycles,” it told ISMR.
“ Our partnership with Siemens has not only helped us meet current challenges but has also positioned us perfectly to meet future challenges, both on the racetrack and in the global market. We are ready to continue winning, with innovation as our guiding principle, always together with a technological partner that allows us to remain competitive and at the top,” said Massimiliano Bertei, CTO, Ducati Motor Holding.
“ In the world of racing, being able to modify your bike [ up ] until the last second is crucial. For example, during race weekends, we can remotely design new components using Siemens’ technology, which are then sent to the track and printed on a 3D printer,” he continued.
Ducati’ s research and development teams’ adoption of Siemens Xcelerator includes a wide range of software and capabilities. Polarion ® software provides requirements capture and management. Designcenter™
NX™ software powers innovative designs. Teamcenter ® software provides the digital thread backbone to connect design and engineering data with Ducati’ s ERP system to enable cross-department collaboration and centralised data synchronisation.
“ With Simcenter™ software and Simcenter™ Testlab™ software, Ducati Corse can virtually simulate and integrate digital simulation with physical test processes and data gathered from the track during race weekends. Siemens’ solutions also play a role in taking design and engineering into production, with Siemens’ Fibersim™ software enabling reduction of development timescales for complex carbon fibre parts,” added Siemens.
Ducati is also relying on Siemens Xcelerator to connect the world of motor racing to its street bike business with Teamcenter playing a pivotal role in bringing together the two worlds.
As Pietro Mappa, CAD / PLM manager, Ducati Motor Holding, explained:“ Thanks to Siemens Xcelerator, we reduced development times with full sharing of data from the racing world to the street bike world. The mechanical, electronics and software teams, both in the street motorcycle and the racing worlds, have a single tool for collaboration and data sharing. There are no more departmental silos, and we have created a single integrated environment in which track engineers and vehicle design engineers can collaborate.”
The Ducati Lenovo team has won the 2025 MotoGP championship with Marc Márquez securing the Riders’ Title, the team taking its sixth consecutive MotoGP Constructors’ Title and has won the MotoGP Team Title for 2025. n

Grinding for tough metals
Weiler Abrasives, a producer of abrasives and power brushes for surface conditioning, has launched its new Metalynx 3D MAX Ceramic resin fibre discs, abrasive products built for durability in tough applications. This addition to the Metalynx portfolio provides a grinding solution for general metal fabrication and industries that require multi-pass welding( such as shipbuilding, pressure vessels and heavy equipment fabrication).
“ This cutting-edge grain technology is designed for maximum cut rate and material removal to boost throughput and reduce operator fatigue,” said Uroš Filipič, Product Manager, Weiler Abrasives.“ This allows operators to reduce changeovers and finish their work faster. These discs work harder, so operators don’ t have to …….”
“ Using 3D precision-shaped grain, the discs deliver exceptional cut rate, durability and cool grinding for maximum productivity. The grain stands upright, allowing for effortless metal removal. Additionally, the design provides optimised grain retention that extends disc life, reducing changeovers to save operations time and money. The micro-fracturing technology and 3D shape make the work easier because less force is needed when grinding. They can be used on materials including steel; stainless steel; highnickel alloys; armoured steel; tool steel; Inconel and titanium,” added the company.
The discs are contaminant-free and can be used on stainless steel parts. In addition to Metalynx 3D MAX, standard ceramic alumina grain resin fibre discs have been added to the product offering under the Weiler brand. This new option provides a solution that complements the existing zirconia( Zirc) and aluminium oxide( AO) tiers, so users can choose the required performance level.
The manufacturer’ s surface conditioning solutions are for cleaning, grinding, cutting, deburring and finishing challenges.
