PRODUCT REVIEWS Fastening and fixing
Controlriv GEN3 is a new process control system , developed by Rivit “ to guarantee excellence and verify fastener quality ”. This system complements previous versions with new and enhanced features . It was launched at the EuroBLECH sheet metal exhibition in Hanover this October , where Rivit also presented several new fastening products .
“ The industrial electronic device , made in Italy , verifies in real-time the correct fastening system and is designed for industrial sectors such as automotive , heavy carpentry , industrial automation , various assemblies and handling systems . Offered as a single model , Controlriv GEN3 allows a user to verify the correct fastening of the rivet-rivet nutslockbolt , through control of each Rivit tool to which it is connected . In this way , any errors can be promptly reported , saving time and cost . The new Controlriv GEN3 can be used in two modes : stand-alone or in a cluster ( a network of interconnected devices ),” highlighted the Italian fastening specialist .
The compact and robust system physically separates its pneumatic and
electronic parts , for quick and easy installation and maintenance . It provides real-time measurement of the compressed air pressure supplied to the tool , with programmable tolerance range and error signalling in case it is out-of-range . It also offers real-time monitoring of the fixing process with an alert system via notifications and colour coding .
Other features include data collection and storage , as well as configurability from remote control . Interfacing to Controlriv GEN3 can be done via Ethernet / Profinet or WiFi / Bluetooth . The new control system includes a practical front panel with a graphic display , one illuminated on / off button , six buttons for the main functions and one USB port . On the back of the machine , there is a panel with one USB port , compressed air input / output and four opto-isolated inputs / three outputs and power supply , all of which can be connected via terminal blocks .
Rivit S . r . l . is based at Ozzano dell ’ Emilia , Italy , and supplies industrial , retail and construction sectors with products and consultancy on fastening systems and tools for the assembly and machining of sheetmetal . It is present in over 65 countries . The company , whose core business is fasteners and tools , became part of the FERVI Group in 2021 . n

Energy-efficient press brake control
Bosch Rexroth aims to increase the costeffectiveness of press brakes , for sheetmetal bending operations , with two new solutions for down-stroking drives .
“ Manufacturers can benefit from an
Valve-controlled drive innovative valve control or an extremely energy-efficient pump control , depending upon their requirements . Both drive packages are characterised by high energy efficiency and control quality for repeatable processes . We can also assist with selecting the best solution for the Above : Pump-controlled or valve-controlled ? With two new drive solutions respective application using the latest from Bosch Rexroth , energy-efficient press brakes can be designed and modernised for different applications . simulation tools ,” it told ISMR .
Various requirements are placed on pressbrake drives for sheet metal processing . Manufacturers are increasingly paying more attention to energy efficiency and carbon footprint when selecting the type of drive . Bosch Rexroth now offers two new solutions for valve-controlled and pump-controlled drives .
Pump-controlled drive
“ Our new complete solution for a pumpcontrolled drive offers high energy efficiency with minimal operating costs , especially for press brakes with high utilisation rates up to 24 / 7 operation . The control unit is a complete power unit supplied ready for installation , which combines a highly dynamic servo motor
and a four-quadrant axial piston pump . A safety block with end position-monitored on / off valves is also part of the package ,” it explained .
The motor-pump unit , which can be managed using a servo controller , supplies the connected drive cylinder with the required hydraulic power at every operating point . The upper piston can be moved , in an energyefficient manner , using the motor speed and torque control outputs .
“ Comparisons using simulation technology show that , compared to conventional drives with throttle control , the new solution offers high potential for saving energy . On the one hand , the intelligent power-on-demand drive achieves a higher level of efficiency with lower system power while , on the other hand , exact
metering reduces the total amount of hydraulic oil required ,” continued the manufacturer .
To optimise valve-controlled drives , Bosch Rexroth is expanding its portfolio of components for press brakes with a 3D cylinder block .
“ Using a new manufacturing process that allows virtually unlimited shaping based on a 3D-printed sand core , the pre-fill valve that was previously mounted on the block is now integrated into the cylinder block . This delivers considerable benefits in terms of energy efficiency and installation space , as well as a reduction in variants . Compared to conventionally manufactured cylinder blocks , the new manufacturing process results in a weight saving of around 35 per cent ,” confirmed Bosch Rexroth .
The two new solutions for valve-controlled and pump-controlled drives operate at a maximum operating pressure of 350 bar with standard pressing forces of up to 3,200 t ( valve-controlled ) and 2,500 t ( pumpcontrolled ). Higher pressing forces are possible . Both variants are also suitable for technical retrofitting . n
