Portable 3D scanner for large parts
Creaform , a business unit of AMETEK , Inc . and a specialist in automated and portable 3D measurement solutions , has announced the latest addition to its flagship HandySCAN 3D line-up , the MAX Series .
The handheld MAX Series line of industrial 3D scanners , designed and manufactured in Canada , offers a 3D scanning area of approximately 1m x 1m and was developed to acquire 3D measurements of any large and complex surfaces . Featuring multiple scanning mode that allows users to choose between the fastest scanning time or maximum resolution , the new portable 3D scanners enable professionals to measure any large parts and assemblies ( up to 15m ) in sectors such as aerospace , transportation , energy , mining and heavy industries amongst others .
“ With volumetric accuracy of 0.100mm + 0.015mm / m , ISO 17025 accreditation and compliance with the VDI / VDE 2634 Part 3 standard , the MAX series provides metrology-grade results making it ideal for quality control , a precision link between parts with tight tolerances and demanding reverse engineering of large parts . The new scanners still feature our powerful dynamic referencing algorithms for accurate and rigorous 3D scans of any object whether in the lab , on the shop floor or in the field ,” explained Creaform .
“ The system is plug-and-play and quick to set up . The 3D scans can be easily and seamlessly integrated into any CAD software , speeding up and simplifying product development , 3D inspection and reverse engineering processes of large parts and assemblies . The MAX Series has all the attributes of the HandySCAN 3D line-up : true portability ; blue laser technology ; integrated photogrammetry ; live meshing and more ,” it continued .
New key features , designed to simplify the scanning process , include Flex Volume
( users can scan at a short standoff distance and measure large parts at very high speed from a longer standoff distance ). Another new feature is the Smart surface algorithm for sophisticated image processing , combined with artificial intelligence , to optimise surface measurements for tracking , better performance , better readings of difficult , contrasted finishes and a simpler scanning process . Real-time calibration enables the MAX Series to integrate the calibration step directly into the scanning workflow , performing it automatically and seamlessly .
Creaform develops , manufactures and markets 3D automated and portable measurement technologies that provide solutions for applications such as 3D scanning ; reverse engineering ; quality control ; non-destructive testing ; product development and MRO . Headquartered in Lévis , Québec , Creaform is present in more than 85 countries through its 15 local offices and a network of over 125 distributors . n

Bruderer launches two new presses
Bruderer , a specialist manufacturer of highspeed presses , unveiled two new machines at the Blechexpo exhibition in Stuttgart , Germany , this November . Swiss stamping specialist , Bruderer ( which is 80 years old ), used the major industrial event to introduce the BSTA 710-220 and the BSTL 350-88 models ( the latter designed to support customers involved in volume production of small and miniature components ).
“ As a fixed-stroke press , the BSTL comes into its own for precision as well as continuity and uses up to 30 % less energy when compared to older machine models . Customers to our stand at Blechexpo were given a first look at the new technology that will help them remain competitive when tendering for mass production projects in the UK and overseas . They also saw how the press ’ s control system can be accessed with different devices via a web browser , with the latest remote maintenance and cyber security ,” explained Bruderer .
Adrian Haller , Managing Director , Bruderer UK , commented : “ The BSTL is the latest innovation from Bruderer and comes complete with a new-generation servo feed unit , which makes it the perfect press for customers involved in supplying electrification , communication and consumer electronics . Blechexpo was a great event to launch the machine and we have received significant interest so far . Thanks to its streamlined functions , the press offers an extremely strong investment-to-performance ratio , and this has been dominating conversations to date .”
The second press launch is focused on delivering more space for complex stamping tools ; the BSTA 710-220 , said Bruderer , offers “ the longest bed length ( 2.2 metres ) of its machine type in the world .” With automatic stroke adjustment and various options such as different stroke lengths , shut heights and press force monitoring ( for example ), the machine can be configured for individual customer requirements and is increasingly suitable for the emerging electrification world .

“ The two launches are the perfect way to celebrate our 16th appearance at Blechexpo , one of the largest international events in our sector ,” said Reto Bruderer , CEO of Bruderer .
Bruderer provides precision stamping presses with press forces from 200 to 2500kN for stamping and forming simple and complex parts . The company has just started construction on its new 48,000 sq . ft . factory and showroom in Telford ( UK ). n
