Consolidating all its sheet-metal nesting with a single software system has reaped continuous rewards for BIZ Engineering in the UK .
BIZ Engineering Ltd , based in Enfield ( UK ), has been a user of JETCAM Expert nesting software for almost thirty years . Today , the software currently drives its NUKON , TRUMPF and AXYZ CNC machines .
Originally founded in 1816 , BIZ ( Builders Iron & Zincwork ) has evolved into three distinct businesses , all of which rely on punch , laser and routing capabilities to manufacture a diverse range of products ( from conveyor systems to go-karts ). It is part of the familyowned and operated BIZ Group Holdings , also comprising BIZ Karts and BIZ Power Tools .
BIZ has a comprehensive knowledge of the sheet-metal industry , with capabilities including design ; CNC laser cutting ; CNC punching ; CNC bending ; MIG , TIG and arc welding ; CNC routing ; bead blasting and inspection . Over 200 years , it has built up a wealth of experience in complex sheet-metal fabrications and welded assemblies with a wide range of applications from the construction sector through to finelimit electrical enclosures . quality and widest specification of product are available to our customers . Our company processes are structured to provide quality and traceability . We manage projects from initial design concept right through to the manufacture of prototypes , batch or highvolume quantities . We can also combine various subcontract supply chains to reduce the burden on our clients having to liaise with multiple companies ,” explained BIZ .
Peter Smith , Sales and Quality Manager , BIZ , added : “ Since implementing JETCAM software back in the early 1990s , we ’ ve used a variety of different machines ( including TRUMPF TCL 2530 lasers and another TRUMPF 200R CNC punch ) up to our current range of punches , routers and laser cutters . All of them have been driven by JETCAM software , and it ’ s always been easy for new staff to pick it up with a few hours of tuition .”
A key feature of JETCAM Expert nesting software is that tooling is stored on the part , not on the nest , for any number of machines and / or technologies . This has allowed BIZ to cut jobs on any relevant machine , based on availability .
“ During the CAD import process , we tool parts for both of the lasers , simply because it ’ s so easy . Although many jobs will only be run on one technology , we ’ ll occasionally switch jobs between the punch and the lasers ,” explained BIZ .
