Reduced SSAB Group Executive Committee

SSAB is making changes in the support functions of its Group Executive Committee. Carl Orrling has been appointed as a new member of SSAB’ s Group Executive Committee, which will be reduced from eleven to nine members.
“ I’ m making these changes to create a smaller and more efficient team. Our focus will be on further strengthening the business, improving the product mix and transforming our Nordic production system”, confirmed Johnny Sjöström, President and CEO of SSAB. Carl Orrling has been appointed EVP CTO with responsibility for the Transformation Office and will become a new member of SSAB’ s Group Executive Committee.
“ Carl has extensive and solid experience in the steel industry and is a key figure in the effort to establish our new state-of-theart steel plant in Luleå as we phase out the current blast furnace-based production system. I am very pleased that he is now joining our Group Executive Committee,” added Johnny Sjöström.

Martin Pei, the former EVP CTO, will become a Senior Advisor with a focus on securing raw material supplies for the new fossil-free steel plants. He will continue to represent SSAB as Chairman of the Board of Hybrit Development AB and will still report to Johnny Sjöström.
These changes took effect on 1 April 2025. The new Group Executive Committee will consist of:

Mazak strengthens UK sales structure

Yamazaki Mazak has strengthened its UK sales organisation through the creation of a series of new roles aimed at increasing customer touch points and expanding timeserved engineering expertise, while further enhancing its aftersales and service support offering.
As part of the move, the company has hired two new area sales engineers for the Midlands. Joe Green will cover the West Midlands region, while Ryan Lakin will offer support to customers in the East Midlands. Both will report to Brian Edmondson, General Sales Manager for the North of England and Midlands regions.
Joe Green assumes the role having joined Mazak as an apprentice in 2017, before completing a three-year extended diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering. Over the past eight years, he has worked in numerous roles at Mazak’ s European Manufacturing Plant in Worcester, UK. This includes time as a CNC engineer and production team lead on both the prismatic line and the turning and grinding line. Most

recently, he was a machine supervisor for two years, before moving to the area sales engineer role.
Ryan Lakin also began his career as an apprentice, working for a Devon-based aerospace engineering company before relocating to the Midlands as an applications engineer specialising in grinding and five-axis machining. Prior to joining Mazak, Ryan most recently worked as a pre-sales engineer for a machine-tool manufacturer.
The creation of the new roles follows Mazak’ s recent announcement to recruit 19 new apprentices at its European Manufacturing Plant in Worcester( UK). The company is also recruiting several new service apprentices based in parts of the country with high concentrations of Mazak users.
