EVENT PREVIEW

Take , for example , new developments for automotive engineering . In nonmotor applications , tubes with variable wall thicknesses can be used to support load-optimised lightweight construction ,” commented Messe Düsseldorf .
Automotive sector opportunities
Electric vehicles are gaining strong momentum in the automotive market . High growth rates in new registrations are already driving the cable and wire industry to invest in more modern technology .
In Europe alone , electric vehicle sales have nearly tripled since 2019 , reports the “ AlixPartners Global Automotive Outlook 2021 .” Investment is rocketing as governments promote the switch electromobility . Fourteen EU countries and China reportedly plan to ban the sale of internal combustion vehicles by 2035 at the latest .
“ The market potential is huge ,” exhibitor Wafios underlined . It develops , designs and manufactures machines for the wire and tube processing industry , as well as for cold forming , and is accelerating its transformation in modern drives by investing ten million euros in a new e-mobility campus at its former Südwerk site in Reutlingen , Germany . In the future , Wafios ’ electromobility activities will be bundled in the 1,800-square-metre campus “ to jointly offer the global automotive industry complete turnkey production lines for hairpin stators .”
Sheet metal and laser specialist TRUMPF also sees electromobility as a growthpromoting stimulus . Copper is considered a key material for conducting electricity and is indispensable in an electric car . TRUMPF ’ s laser can be used to weld copper for the highperformance electronics of electric cars .
“ The shift towards electromobility offers
great opportunities for the German industry ,” emphasised Christian Schmitz , Managing Director for Laser Technology , TRUMPF .
