PRODUCT REVIEWS Welding in focus

EWM , Germany ’ s largest manufacturer of arc welding technology , is a family-run business founded in 1957 . Today , it has over 400 sales and service support outlets across the globe , making it one of the world ’ s leading producers of welding technology ( including sustainable solutions ).
Tetrix XQ for TIG welding
Powerful , durable and easy to use , the new Tetrix XQ 230 from EWM delivers TIG welding at a high level .
“ We put particular emphasis on improving user-friendliness . The new controls with a 7-inch colour display are particularly wellarranged and intuitive to use . Welding tasks can be individually programmed and accessed again at any time . The Tetrix XQ 230 is incredibly powerful and can be run directly from a singlephase 230 V power socket , which makes it very versatile . An ergonomic and robust casing and compatible accessories round out the innovative concept ,” said EWM .
The welding machine enables continuous operation even on weak grids , with long mains leads or when in generator operation . Depending upon the welding task , the user can choose from various TIG and MMA functions . Up to four pulse variants are available . It is available in DC and AC / DC variants , so covers a broad spectrum of applications and materials .
“ The Tetrix XQ 230 can be optionally equipped with a cooling unit , welding torch and trolley for transport at the construction site or in the workshop . The water-based cooling system , Cool XQ , enables continuous use of the welding torch even at high welding currents , under extreme workloads or unfavourable ambient conditions ,” added EWM .
Expandable MIG / MAG welding machines
Different working environments present different challenges when welding . EWM has therefore developed new modular versions of its Phoenix XQ puls , Taurus XQ Synergic and Taurus XQ Basic MIG / MAG welding machines , providing welders with more convenience and customisation . The modular machines are also space-saving and lightweight , offering more mobility and flexibility . This new solution , EWM told ISMR ,
EWM Xnet is web-based and compatible with all operating systems . allows users to put together exactly the right additional components for their daily work activities .
Users can pick and choose which wire feeder or what cooling they prefer to use for their daily tasks . They can also retrofit their machines as needed , gradually completing their set-up with new modules . The wide range of user-oriented accessories – including a toolbox and cover lens for the control – also gives users the freedom to adapt their modular XQ series machines to any working area . Modular versions of the XQ welding machines are also compatible with the ewm Xnet welding management software .
Digital welding data management
The ewm Xnet digital welding 4.0 management software solution supports , documents and analyses the entire production process , from work preparation to final costing , all completely paperless . This makes quality assurance even easier and allows users to extensively evaluate any welding parameters used for a job after the fact .
“ ewm Xnet records all the welding data in real-time , manages it and communicates the consumption values . The software provides support in component management , creating welding sequence plans and allocating welding procedure specifications . You can also assign access permissions individually and keep track of each welder ’ s test certificates ,” explained EWM .
It recognises changes to the parameters using real-time welding data recording and analysis , signalling these to users and helping them to prevent errors . Now , both EWM power sources and welding machines from any manufacturer can be integrated into the network , making a company ’ s entire welding production transparent . Productionrelated quality assurance is becoming more and more important . Not only does it ensure only high-quality products , it also plays an important role in product liability .
Order numbers , assemblies , batches , serial numbers etc . can be recorded when entered using an industry scanner and assigned to the welding process . The welding management system also provides data on consumption and efficiency .

As ewm Xnet works in an open SQL database , various systems can read and write data for the purpose of digitalisation .
Xnet Universal logger
With the ewm Xnet Universal logger , EWM is now extending the benefits of its welding management system to companies that use welding machines from several different manufacturers in their production line . This , said EWM , will ensure transparency throughout the entire production line , allowing users to fulfil all quality and product liability requirements in welding production .
“ Even EWM welding machines without a digital interface and machines from any other manufacturer can now be integrated into ewm Xnet . In particular , this will give companies with few power sources , who still value a future-proof quality management system for welding , a great chance to integrate their existing machines into the Industry 4.0 environment ,” it added .
In combination with the ewm Xnet plugand-play set , Universal logger users can choose to use ewm Xnet functions even on individual machines . It also makes using ewm Xnet for robotic welding , and other automated systems , easier . n
