INDUSTRY NEWS New 2022 exhibition dates

LAMIERA 2022 ( the international exhibition dedicated to sheet metalforming machine tools and technologies in Milan , Italy ) will take place one week earlier . The event is now scheduled at the Fieramilano Rho exhibition grounds from 18-21 May 2022 .
The exhibition has been moved up due to a reorganisation in the trade fair calendar at Fieramilano , as public health conditions have meant the postponement of all events scheduled for the first quarter of the current year .
Promoted by UCIMU- Sistemi Per Produrre ( the Italian machine tools , robots and automation systems manufacturers ’ association ) and organised by Centro Esposizioni UCIMU , LAMIERA has reported over 200 applications to exhibit .
In further news , Wire and Tube ( Düsseldorf ) will now be postponed to 20-24 June 2022 and held concurrently with the METAV 2022 exhibition . METAV 2022 will take place from 21-24 June 2022 in Düsseldorf , Germany . This , said the METAV organiser , would enable a greater industry showcase of metalworking technologies .
Martin Göbel , managing director of trade fairs at VDW ( German Machine Tool Builders ’ Association ), explained : “ Back in the summer of 2008 , both events were successfully held at the same time at Messe Düsseldorf . We are convinced that , with our new date in early summer and the renewed combination of these three strong trade fairs in the heart of Europe ’ s largest industrial conurbation , we are providing a strong incentive for a visit to the trade fair .”
Guests will only need one free ticket to visit all three trade fairs . METAV will welcome exhibitors and trade visitors to halls 16 and 17 , Wire to halls 9 to 15 and Tube to halls 1 to 7a . The Düsseldorf exhibition grounds will therefore be at full capacit by the start of the summer calendar . n

TrimLine orders second AIDA servo press

TrimLine , an IATF 16949-approved U . S . automotive supplier and high-volume metal stamper specialising in the design and fabrication of high-precision tooling , has ordered its second AIDA 630-ton progressive die , directdrive servo press ( model DSF-M2-6300 ). Its first 630-ton AIDA servo press was installed at its LaGrange , Ohio , facility earlier this year .
“ The benefits that TrimLine is reaping on its first DSF-M2-6300 press helped to justify a second duplicate servo press purchase to meet its customers ’ increased demand . This includes taking advantage of the servo press ’ s pendulum motion capability to achieve a 25-30 % spm increase over its previous mechanical press production method . TrimLine would be able to produce parts even faster at a rate of 51spm , if not for a stacking bottleneck at the end of the press as its AIDA servo press outperforms Trimline ’ s material handling equipment ,” AIDA told ISMR . n

Miele chooses green steel from Salzgitter

The Miele Group , one of the world ’ s leading manufacturers of household appliances , has opted for Salzgitter AG ’ s green steel in a drive to reduce its CO 2 footprint . From November 2021 onwards , the domestic appliance group has been sourcing just under 24 tons of low
CO 2 steel per month as part of a pilot project . The steel will then find use in top covers for all stoves and ovens with a diameter of 60cm , which are produced at its Oelde plant . Further applications in other appliances are being examined . “ The CO 2 emissions generated by the manufacturing process are reduced by more than 66 per cent in this material through harnessing climatecompatible sources of energy and steel scrap . In taking this step , Miele is making a first contribution to lowering emissions in purchased goods and services ( Scope 3.1 ) and taking an important step towards implementing its ambitious sustainability goals ,” explained Salzgitter .
Miele had already announced that , before the end of 2021 , it would already be operating in a CO 2
-neutral manner across all its locations in terms of greenhouse gas emissions from its own combustion processes ( Scope 1 ) and emissions from energy suppliers ( Scope 2 ). In September 2021 , the company also announced a specific target for emissions from the utilisation phase of Miele appliances that account for a major part of Scope 3 . These emissions are to have been lowered by 15 percent by 2030 ( compared to 2019 ) in terms of the overall consumption of all appliances in use .
“ At the same time , we are intensively engaging in investigating options for optimising purchased goods and services ,” stated Dr . Stefan Breit , Miele ’ s executive director for technology . These emissions are responsible for all CO 2 emissions in connection with
Miele . The low CO 2 steel grades are produced at Salzgitter ’ s Peine ’ s mini mill and processed further in rolling mills and galvanizing plants .
“ When steel scrap is melted , and through the deployment of climate-compatible energy sources , the CO 2 footprint of the galvanized material is 66 per cent lower compared to conventional production of steel via the blast furnace route . This has been verified by the TÜV SÜD ( German technical inspectorate ) based on data from 2018 on the various process routes for producing strip steel ,” Salzgitter told ISMR .
“ Going forward , hydrogen and power from renewable energies can fully replace the carbon formerly required to produce steel , which will serve to lower the
CO 2 emissions from steel production by more than 95 per cent .”
Salzgitter AG is working on this ambitious goal through its Salzgitter Low
CO 2
Steelmaking transformation project ( SALCOS ). The key component is power from renewable sources and hydrogen that , together , will replace the coal currently used in the conventional blast furnace process .
In November 2021 , Salzgitter Flachstahl won the Gold Award at the 19th MATERIALICA Design + Technology Awards in the ‘ Material – CO 2
Efficiency ’ category for its low CO₂ steel in serial automotive production . n
