WELCOME Welcome to ISMR !
According to updated research , the global market for sheet metal fabrication services ( estimated at US $ 3.8- billion in 2020 ) is projected to reach a revised size of US $ 4.3 billion by 2027 , growing at a CAGR of 2 % over the analysis period ( 2020-2027 ).
In the March issue of ISMR , we highlight some key Fraunhofer research projects which will impact significantly on manufacturing today and tomorrow ( page 15 ). We also include a special focus on laser cutting ( page 19 ) and unveil a selection of new global tube and pipe processing innovations and technology developments on page 36 .

It is also with great sadness that we report the passing of a stalwart of the UK sheet metal industry , Ray Jelf , below . We will miss him .

In memoriam
Ray Jelf ( 19 / 3 / 1934 – 10 / 2 / 2021 )
We are very sad to announce the passing of Ray Jelf , ISME ( the UK Institute of Sheet Metal Engineering ) past President and Chairman , on 10 February 2021 at the age of 86 . He received the ISME Gold medal in 2018 . Through his company , Indicum Ltd . ( specialising in presses ), and his work with ISME and MMMA ( Metal Forming Machinery Makers Association ), Ray became one of the most well-known and respected stalwarts in the UK sheet metal industry and did much to foster developments and relationships . In parallel with his ISME work , he was an active member of the MMMA as well as its Company Secretary . He will be greatly missed .
