GENERAL NEWS
Global sheet metal market makes an impact
According to analyst, Research and Markets, the global sheet metal market size will grow from US $ 327.9 billion in 2024 to US $ 344.51 billion in 2025, at a compound annual growth rate( CAGR) of 5.1 %. The analyst also forecasts growth to US $ 441.07 billion in 2029 at a compound annual growth rate( CAGR) of 6.4 %.
The global sheet metal market size was also valued at US $ 339.78 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach US $ 490.65 billion by 2032( with a CAGR of 4.70 % during the forecast period of 2025 to 2032) by analyst Data Bridge Market Research.
A different analyst, Grand View Research, has valued the global sheet metal market size at US $ 188.31 billion in 2023. However, these analysis reports were issued before U. S. President Trump announced his tariff regime on steel and aluminium, as well as cars, in recent weeks.
Supply and demand
“ Continuous expansion of the building and construction sector is one of the key drivers for market growth. Sheet metal products [ offer ] high strength and are deployed in sturdy structures. Moreover, these products are thin and lightweight, which makes them easy to transport,” said Grand View Research.
“ The use of lightweight materials and

alloys with titanium and aluminium is likely to contribute to the growth of the [ sheet-metal ] sector. Demand for titanium is anticipated to grow on account of its extensive use in the aerospace industry for [ various ] applications,” it added.
The impact of demand and supply dynamics leads to extreme volatility in prices of raw materials. Production costs also influence steel prices and storage capacity. Steel production cost is impacted by these price fluctuations, which directly influences the cost of sheet metal.
“ Geopolitical tensions and trade uncertainties contribute to the challenge of securing a stable supply chain. The dominance of a few countries in steel and aluminium production raises concerns about supply-chain resilience. Downstream businesses must strategically diversify their sources and explore alternative materials to mitigate risks associated with geopolitical dynamics,” explained Grand View Research.
“ The regulatory impact is moderately high, with stringent rules on production processes, environmental standards, quality and worker safety. Compliance is essential to avoid severe penalties and reputational damage. The sustainability push has heightened focus on green steel and aluminium recyclability, driving the adoption of advanced technologies to minimize the environmental footprint of sheet metal production,” it continued.
A major trend in the sheet metal market, added Data Bridge Market Research, is the growing preference for aluminium and high-strength steel in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
“ The North-American sheet metal market is the third largest market in the world, after Asia Pacific and Europe. The Asia-Pacific sheet metal market accounted for the largest global revenue share of 65.0 % in 2023 and is anticipated to continue its dominance over the forecast period. China held over 69 % revenue share of the overall Asia-Pacific sheet metal market. China was the largest crude steel producer in the world in 2023,” concluded Grand View Research. n
Digitalisation, sustainability and young talent
SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN will bring together a global community of professionals involved in joining, cutting and surfacing at Messe Essen in Germany from 15-19 September 2025. A key feature of the tradeshow will be the premiere of the Future Hub in Hall 7, as well as the presentation of the first IF Digital Awards for exhibitors.
“ Designed as a central communication platform, the Future Hub presents cuttingedge technologies and hands-on innovations while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue. Industry experts, companies, start-ups and young professionals will gather here to address the current challenges and opportunities shaping the welding and cutting sectors. Key topics include digitalisation, sustainability and workforce development,” the show organiser told ISMR.
The Future Hub will be dedicated to relevant topics such as automation, artificialintelligence, environmental protection, recruitment, cybersecurity and social media.
The IF Digital Awards will be held at Schweissen & Schneiden.
The focus is not only on knowledge transfer but also on meaningful networking. Formats such as moderated talks, best-practice sessions, panel discussions and talent-oriented events will encourage intensive dialogue among stakeholders. Additional highlights include meet-and-greets with industry leaders and prominent influencers offering fresh insights into communication, careers and collaboration in the digital age.
Presentations will include topics such as innovative materials for thermal surfacing, training, connected welding fume sensors and the surfacing of punching dies used in progressive tools. An international panel will discuss resource-saving cleaning processes. Further programme highlights will cover topics such as women in industry, the role of socialmedia in technical communication, recruitment strategies and start-ups for industrial transformation.
“ Exhibitors can use the Future Hub to present their company, current projects and new products to an interested specialist audience. Themed guided tours will also start and end there. For visitors, there will be interactive activities, contests and entertainment. Igor Welder will be on-site, performing live welding demonstrations,” concluded the show organiser. n
