Nidec launches linear position detector
Nidec Machine Tool Corporation has launched its MPLJ series, a linear-type position detector designed to handle long strokes for large machine tools and long equipment.
“ Featuring an MP Scale that adopts an electromagnetic induction method, this new series achieves a position detection accuracy of ± 2.5μm / m with a maximum stroke coverage of 255m. The product boasts high usability with an absolute system( which does not require homing during start-up) and single-cable use,” the manufacturer explained.
“ As machine tools and transportation devices [ have become larger ] in recent years, demand is growing for position detectors to accommodate long devices, use less wiring labour, homing during start-up efficiently upon activation and consume less power during maintenance. The MPLJ series successfully addresses such issues in designing, manufacturing and maintenance processes to help reduce the burden on users,” it continued.
By connecting standard-length scales of 1,000mm, 750mm, 500mm and 250mm in a modular connected structure, the MPLJ series can boast a maximum stroke coverage of 255m. By using standard lengths, the MPLJ series is designed to ensure easier

transportation and installation, while offering improved maintainability when damaged( since only the damaged section needs to be replaced).
“ A single-cable-based direct connection from the MPLJ’ s sensor head to the NC controller simplifies wiring and reduces its equipment design workload. MPLJ’ s absolute position detection function, which has both incremental and absolute patterns, can retain position information even when the power is turned off, and does not require homing during start-up during activation. The MPLJ does not require a backup battery, which further helps to reduce maintenance workloads,” added Nidec.

“ MPLJ adopts fully contactless structure based on an electromagnetic induction method to be free of wear components. Complying with IP67, it offers stable operations even in a dusty and oily environment. With its‘ multihead’ feature, where the user can mount multiple heads on a single scale, MPLJ can control multiple axes independently and design equipment more freely. Dedicated software, MP Checker II, enables easy installation condition check, long-term condition monitoring and maintenance diagnosis,” it said. n

Powerbend Professional metal folder
The Schröder Group exhibited at Swedish trade show, Elmia in Jönköping, from 19-22 May 2026. The manufacturer of sheet metalworking machines presented its product portfolio for the first time with its own booth at the trade show. The company showcased its PowerBend Professional motorised folding machine at Elmia 2026.
“ The PowerBend Professional that was on display at Elmia folds up to 3.0mm-thick steel sheets over a working length of 3240mm. The machine features an up-and-down folding beam and a large clamping beam stroke of 540mm, which allows for a maximum box height of 250mm. Thanks to this feature, sheets do not need to be turned for counterbends. This improves ergonomics and speeds up the folding process. Another feature is the rotating clamping beam, which can automatically switch to a second set of tools during operation,” outlined the Group.
The PowerBend Professional is also available with an optional hemming function. This allows for the high-volume production of hollow folds for high repeatability.
With its industrial-grade features, the

PowerBend Professional is suitable not just for industrial settings but also for small workshops.
“ This robust folder is a professional solution for thin sheet metal applications. It is ideal for continuous operation in large workshops, mid-sized companies and the industry,” concluded The Schröder Group.
The two German manufacturers of sheetmetal processing machines( Hans Schröder Maschinenbau and SCHRÖDER-FASTI Technologie, who form the Schroeder Group), offer manufacturers a variety of machines for folding, cutting, beading, flanging and rolling. n
