EVENT PREVIEW with the new slogan“ Where it all begins”, which is intended to emphasize the central role of machine tools, enabling most manufacturing processes.
“ 35. BI-MU is also a sustainable event, managed and organised according to the principles of environmental, economic and social sustainability with ICIM ISO 20121 certification,” added UCIMU.
Seven focus areas
Seven technological focus areas at Bi-MU will represent the beating heart of industrial innovation.
■ RobotHeart – Robotics & Artificial Intelligence: Advanced solutions for automation, components, systems and artificial intelligence( sponsored by SIRI-Italian Robotics and Automation Association).
■ AMItaly – Additive Technologies: A complete overview of the additive manufacturing supply chain( machines, materials, software, testing, postprocessing) with concrete application examples. Sponsored by AITA- Italian Association of Additive Technologies.
■ BI-MU Digital – Digital Manufacturing & Adaptive Systems: Digital solutions for the smart factory featuring advanced software, industrial connectivity technologies, data security, advanced sensors and self-adaptive systems for increasingly automated, safe and responsive production.
■ Metrology and Testing – Control, Quality & Certification: Measuring instruments, non-destructive testing and artificial vision systems.
■ Power4Machines – Mechatronics & Power Transmission: Components for mechanical, electrical and pneumatic power transmission. Sponsored by FEDERTEC Association.
■ Heat and Surface Treatments: Equipment and systems to enhance material performance.
■ Tool Tech – Tools & Precision: Advanced tools for efficient, precision production.
■ Revamping & Retrofitting: Designed to meet the needs of the“ second life” market.
“ Beside stand-alone machines, metal cutting and metal forming machines, prominence will also be given to complex systems based on functional modularity, which can be adapted to production changes much more easily and quickly than traditional processing units,” explained UCIMU.
Special events and contests
A series of thematic, cultural in-depth initiatives of interest to professionals visiting the event will also be held. New features will be panel and roundtable discussions dedicated to two sectors with interesting growth potential and particularly dynamic demand:‘ Aerospace & Defence’( 14 / 10 / 2026) and‘ Energy’( 15 / 10 / 2026).
For young people, the project dedicated to Education & Skills will be back again, with ROBOTGAMES as its flagship event. Now in its second edition, this automation and robotics contest is promoted by UCIMU Academy and organised by EFIM for high-school students. On 15 October 2026, the 12 finalist teams, representing 11 educational institutes from across Italy, will compete by presenting their innovative robotic automation projects for industrial applications.
For students of Higher Technical Institutes( ITS Academies), the AITA-Italian Association of Additive Technologies and EFIM are promoting the Additive Future Lab. This new national contest introduces young talent to additive manufacturing technologies, which are playing an increasingly central role in industrial

processes. The award ceremony will be held in the AMITALY zone at BI-MU on 16 October 2026.
A new initiative will also be BI-MU FUTURTECH AWARDS, celebrating innovative solutions in manufacturing featured at the exhibition. The contest is open to exhibitors at 35. BI-MU, who can compete in three categories: mechanical innovation, digitalisation and sustainability( economic, environmental and social).
A Judging Committee, made up of five university professors, will conduct a preliminary documentary assessment to identify the finalists. The final winners— three for each category— will be selected only after a dedicated technical visit to the booths during the exhibition days. The awards ceremony will take place on 16 October 2026, the final day of the exhibition, in the BI-MUpiù Arena. n
