Launch of new XPR460 plasma cutter
Hypertherm Associates , a U . S . -based manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software , has announced the release of its latest innovation : the Hypertherm ® XPR460 ® plasma cutting system . Positioned as the latest addition to the XPR line with X-Definition ® technology , this advanced plasma system has been designed for versatility , productivity and precision according to the company .
“ The system offers superior cutting versatility for mild steel , stainless steel and aluminium and performs multiple applications with SureCut™ technology for bolt-ready holes and smooth 45-degree bevels . It is suitable for XY and robotic cutting applications ,” outlined Hypertherm Associates .
“ In terms of productivity , cutting speed is increased by an average of 12 % through to 50mm ( two-inch ) mild steel with piercing of up to 64mm ( 2.5 inches ) mild steel . The system is future-enabled for Smart Factory integration and connectivity . It also offers an increase of 12 % in consumable life versus HPR400XD ®. The XPR460 ® plasma cutting system provides high cut quality for thicker metal ( providing cleaner , sharper and more consistent edge quality ) as well as excellent part-to-part consistency over the life of the consumable , ensuring quality from the first cut to the last ,” it added .
With Arc response technology , the XPR460 is also engineered for system optimisation .
Ramp-down error protection significantly increases realized consumable life , and torch protection reduces the impact of catastrophic electrode blowouts which can damage the torch at high current levels .
Designed for seamless operation , the XPR460 features Argon-assist technology
for extended piercing capability and edgestarting on thick mild steel and stainless steel . Its advanced process control mechanisms prioritise plate protection and consumable efficiency , minimizing downtime and maximizing output .
“ With four gas-connect console options , the XPR460 offers flexibility and control over the cutting process . Each console is seamlessly integrated with the CNC interface , ensuring ease of use and high productivity . CorePlus , VWI and OptiMix gas-connect consoles enable improved marking applications , enhancing the system ’ s versatility and efficiency ,” concluded the manufacturer .
In addition to its plasma and waterjet cutting systems , the company creates CNCs and software for increased productivity and profitability . Founded in 1968 , Hypertherm Associates is a 100- per cent Associateowned company , employing approximately 2,000 Associates , with operations and partner representation worldwide . n

ZINNIN Green soldering and tinning pastes
Emil Otto GmbH is expanding its metal chemistry product portfolio for soft soldering with new ZINNIN Green soldering and tinning pastes . The sustainable soldering and tinning pastes do not require zinc chloride and are therefore not subject to hazard labelling and can be used for soft soldering and tinning . They are particularly suitable for processing steel , brass and copper alloys and can also be used in the electronics industry .
“ During soft soldering , metals are joined together using a solder at process temperatures below 450 ° C . To ensure that these joints are as stable and durable as possible , the surfaces of the metals to be soldered must be as clean as possible and free of oxides . The formation of oxides during the soldering process should also be avoided . To achieve this , we have developed a wide variety of products such as flux concentrates ; ready-to-use fluxes ; soldering lotions ; oils ; pastes and greases . This includes the newly introduced soldering and tinning pastes from
Label-free soldering and tinning pastes ( ZINNIN Green ) with different alloys .
the ZINNIN Green product group ,” explained Markus Gessner , Head of Marketing and Sales , Emil Otto GmbH .
The ZINNIN Green pastes are used in the metalworking industry as well as in electronics production and are also suitable for tinning printed circuit boards . They are available in three variants with different alloys : ZINNIN Green I with the alloy Sn100 , ZINNIN Green II with the alloy Sn96.5 Ag3.0 Cu0.5 ( SAC305 ) and ZINNIN Green III with the alloy Sn97Cu3 .
Before use , the paste must be stirred until the green colour of the usage indicator changes to metallic silver grey .
“ This is essential to return the paste to a usable state . Stirring can be done with a stainless steel or wooden spatula ,” continued Gessner . The paste is then applied to the parts to be treated using a brush or similar . For overlapping parts or grooved pipe connections , the overlaps should also be lightly coated with the paste .
“ ZINNIN GREEN III spreads very well on the surfaces of workpieces and penetrates perfectly into soldering gaps ,” concluded Gessner . If flux residues are formed after the soldering process , they can be removed with deionized water .
ZINNIN Green pastes are suitable for both industrial and craft applications and are available in various packaging sizes . n
