AIDA-America ’ s 2024 Servo Symposium

AIDA-America , a metal stamping press manufacturer in Dayton , OH ( USA ), welcomed representatives from 40 companies in the United States , Canada , and Mexico for its 2024 Servo Symposium . This two-day , invitation-only educational event was held from 5-7 June 2024 .
“ Metal stampers from a variety of industries garnered information on topics ranging from Industry 4.0 , servo press design , development and applications , as well as cost justifications . Participants also viewed multiple interactive servo-press demonstrations ,” AIDA-America told ISMR .
Presses on display included a DSF-C1-1500A , 150-ton gap frame servo press , DSF-N2- 3000AB , 300-ton unitised frame servo press and DSF-M2-6300 , 630-ton servo press . Each press featured Allen-Bradley control systems specifically designed to meet the needs of North American manufacturers A complete tour of AIDA-America ’ s 180,000-square foot facility was a highlight for attendees . AIDA-America , a stamping press
manufacturer in North America , has the capabilities to design , build , service and support servo presses of up to 3,500 tons . Its Servo Symposium provided an opportunity for those in the manufacturing industry to learn about important technology trends , their impact on operational efficiency and how to best partner with equipment suppliers to achieve organisational goals .
AIDA is a leading supplier of metal stamping presses and metalforming equipment . AIDA servo and mechanical stamping presses are available in capacities from 35 to 4,000 tons and 1 to 800 strokes per minute . Single press ; tandem line ; high-speed ; lamination and cold forging models for single stroke , transfer and progressive die applications provide a full range of production capabilities . AIDA also offers material handling and automation systems for complete turnkey solutions produced by a single manufacturer .
Sales , service , engineering and manufacturing locations in over 40 cities across 20 countries support press installations exceeding 80,000 units in over 60 countries . These systems stamp products for the automotive , appliance , electronics , electrical and consumer goods sectors . n

Digital laser maintenance for Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz and high-tech company , TRUMPF , have honed their decades-long relationship to make complex systems in production more resilient and efficient . In the age of the Smart Factory , both companies are focusing on predictive digital maintenance in real-time laser maintenance . The corresponding pilot project at the Sindelfingen site served as a blueprint for all Mercedes-Benz plants worldwide .
“ The innovative process significantly reduces the risk of unplanned downtime of machines , which enormously increases the resilience of complex vehicle production processes ,” explained TRUMPF .
Up to now , lasers have been serviced at fixed-time intervals directly in their respective locations . Master data maintenance , documentation and data exchange were carried out manually . With the help of Manufacturing Service Bus ( MSB ) and additional elements of the global MO360 data infrastructure , around half of the approximately 400 TRUMPF lasers and associated laser optics used worldwide at Mercedes-Benz are now connected in one cloud .
“ The future of automotive production is about forward-looking , digital processes , dynamic maintenance and maximum failure avoidance . Together with our partner TRUMPF , we are driving forward continuous

process optimisation with innovative condition monitoring , even in system maintenance ”, said Jörg Burzer , Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG Production , Quality & Supply Chain Management .
In the digital service condition monitoring developed by TRUMPF , the status of the lasers is now continuously monitored and analysed cloud-based in real-time . In condition monitoring , TRUMPF service experts use algorithms to monitor the networked laser centrally from a single point while the machine is operational . Abnormalities can be detected immediately and reported directly to the corresponding maintenance department , accompanied by recommended actions . Mercedes-Benz can therefore recognize additional maintenance requirements before a laser fails .
“ The risk of a failure is predictable and can be prevented by maintenance measures initiated on time . This avoids unplanned downtimes in production and significantly reduces breakdowns . Over 80 % of all service cases can be predicted and proactively planned . In addition , the results of these analyses help Mercedes-Benz better operate the laser and therefore assist in the continuous optimisation of its high-tech vehicle production ,” explained TRUMPF .
“ Digital networking is the key to greater efficiency in production . With smart factory solutions , we are strengthening the competitiveness of our customers . Through condition monitoring and data analyses , we support our partner Mercedes-Benz in its state-of-the-art production and increase the availability of our laser and machines ”, concluded Hagen Zimer , CEO Laser Technology and Member of the Board of Management of TRUMPF .
TRUMPF also confirmed that productionrelevant data is not passed onto third parties . Only laser status data is sent to the TRUMPF cloud for analysis , where the data streams are protected by cloud assessments and audits . n
