Magnetic clamping solution

PRODUCT REVIEWS

FEIN , a power tools and accessories manufacturer , has launched its first expandable clamping solution , the VersaMAG system , to the UK ’ s metalworking market . The modular system , centred around a powerful magnet , features a range of attachments which can be interchanged for use in various applications .
The VersaMAG , a neodymium magnet , forms the foundation of the clamping solution . Its two-rotor system generates a maximum holding force of 7800N , allowing end users to clamp securely onto magnetic surfaces ( as thin as 4mm ).
“ The clamping system ’ s powerful magnetic base also eliminates the requirements to manoeuvre rigid worktop vices or materials in order to safely secure it while operating tools . This significantly reduces the required set-up time across many applications , increasing productivity for those working across metal and steel construction , machinery and plant engineering , and many more ,” outlined FEIN .
As well as the magnetic base , the system also consists of several attachments designed to support end-user requirements . The VersaMAG vice is mounted onto the magnet for quick and flexible use .
“ The ability to set up the vice quickly and easily almost anywhere encourages workers to secure materials and not attempt to hold components in their hands whilst operating power tools , which helps to significantly reduce the risk of workplace accidents . The mobile aspect of the vice also enables easy removal , creating extra workspace when not required for a task . For use with larger components , we also offer 60mm raising jaws to be attached to the mobile vice ,” added FEIN .
In addition to the vice and jaws , FEIN has developed a 16mm welding plate for use with the magnetic base . Featuring a hole grid system , the welding plate enables simple and precise alignment of workpieces . Its small and compact design makes it suitable for stationary and mobile use .
“ As well as offering increased productivity and flexibility , the VersaMAG system expands our portfolio of safety solutions . We know from speaking directly to users that a lack of flexible vice options has historically led to frustration and safety risks , where material cannot be secured properly or operators
have felt forced to use their hand , leaving only one hand free for tool operation . We are proud to be solving this issue with our new easy-to-use , magnetic clamping system . The VersaMAG joins our growing collection of safety-led solutions , which also features recent launches including our high-safety angle grinder , the Protago , which pairs perfectly for a safer standard of grinding ,” highlighted Andy Mills , Managing Director , FEIN UK .
“ The launch of the VersaMAG marks FEIN ’ s first steps into the world of clamping technology . We are already planning for its expansion , with action underway to offer our customers even more attachments for use in different application areas ,” concluded Andy Mills . n www . fein . com / en _ uk /

Tube bending software

VGPNext is the new CAD / CAM programming software for BLM GROUP tube bending and wire bending machines . It features a completely revised graphical user interface with features designed to make the operator ’ s job easier and machine programming more practical and simpler . VGPNext is designed to improve the synergy between machine and software by simplifying core functions for more user-friendly programming .
“ With VGPNext , you can identify the part program right away , simulate the job and start production in just a few clicks . It allows you to choose a program from the library using an archive containing images and technical data . The library collects all the programs on the server in one place , providing the convenience of preview images and numerous search filters to make this step even easier . Customised tags can be assigned to the various part programs and searches can be filtered by tag , section , material , date , machine and much more ,” explained the company .
The B _ import module can be used to call up a tube or multi-tube assembly in STEP or IGES formats in VGPNext to automatically obtain theoretical coordinates . This saves time and allows less experienced operators to quickly become familiar with the program .
The entire programming flow has been made more user friendly with the help of a ribbon bar that assists the operator by indicating missing steps , incorrectly filledin data , default data and user-modified data . VGPNext considers possible variables ( including theoretical coordinates ; springback ; material elongation ; bending feasibility ; choice of tools etc .) and indicates how to intervene . The operator can switch from one step to the next without losing valuable data . The 3D simulator incorporated in VGPNext can be used to simulate feasibility once the part has been programmed and the geometric deformations are corrected .
“ VGPNext is equipped with a realistic simulator that anticipates potential collisions between the machined part and the machine to avoid contact and ensure safe production . Each machine is identified by its serial number ,
so the software knows the exact configuration of the machine and the respective accessories . This allows VGPNext to recognize two machines of the same family with different configurations . The simulations reflect the exact conditions of the machine and can provide accurate cycle-time data ,” commented the manufacturer .
A defect correction catalogue is available in VGPNext allowing the operator to conveniently select the most suitable correction without having to redesign the entire part program . The machine will then suggest which correction to make and set the parameters for the correction .
A monitoring function provides a complete overview of the machine ’ s efficiency over the entire day . It allows users to monitor the daily production of a system including checking the cycle time of the workpiece , the various completed jobs and the total number of rejects ( among other factors ). The plug-in screen manages additional functions to simulate changes in the productivity of the system ( with and without a given function ) WATCH so that users can evaluate whether to purchase it in the future . n
