New Chair elected for EA
European Aluminium , the voice of the aluminium industry in Europe , has confirmed that Philipp Schlüter , CEO of TRIMET Aluminium SE , has been elected as the association ’ s new Chair . Philipp succeeds Ingrid Jörg , President Aerospace and Transportation at Constellium , who served as Chair for the past two years .
Under Ingrid ’ s leadership , European Aluminium made significant progress in advancing the industry ’ s strategic priorities and highlighting the critical role of aluminium in the EU ’ s green transition . Ingrid will continue to contribute to the association as a member of the Executive Committee .
Philipp assumed his new role as Chair of European Aluminium on 26 April 2023 . As the CEO of TRIMET , he brings nearly 15 years of experience in the aluminium industry to his new role . He joined the family business in 2009 and has held various leadership positions in areas such as risk management , raw material procurement and energy management , as well as in retail trade and sales , before being appointed as CEO in 2018 .
Philipp ’ s priority as the new Chair of European Aluminium will be to address the severe impact of the ongoing energy crisis . The industry has already seen a 50 % reduction in the EU ’ s primary aluminium production , with the gas-dependent semifabrication and recycling sectors also facing significant challenges .
“ I ’ m honoured to take on this new role as Chair of European Aluminium during this critical time for our industry ,” said Philipp . “ The past 18 months have been nothing short of catastrophic for the aluminium industry , and urgent political action is necessary to prevent further production losses . Our industry is integral to Europe ’ s economic and social fabric , providing jobs and sustainable aluminium for countless green technologies .
“ We want to continue to contribute to Europe ’ s growth and prosperity , but the truth is that we ’ re struggling just to break even . We need to find effective solutions that will keep our plants open and allow our material to serve Europe and Europeans in the decades to come . I ’ m determined to work closely with our members , stakeholders , and policymakers to make that happen .” n
