PowerBend Professional at BIEMH 2022 |
The Schröder Group was represented by its |
sales partner Josep Muntal SL , at the BIEMH |
machine tool exhibition in Bilbao , Spain ( 13-17 |
June 2022 ). It showcased the new version of |
the PowerBend Professional motorised folder |
at the event . |
“ The PowerBend Professional is designed |
to bend up to 3.0mm thick steel sheets with |
precision over a length of 3200mm . Its upand-down |
folding beam moves upwards and |
downwards so that there is no need to turn the |
sheet for counterfolds , which is a huge relief |
( especially for large formats ). Another special |
feature is the suction plate stop . The plate can |

An eye on fixtures
Rivit Srl ’ s CONTROLRIV4.0 is a monitoring system for blind rivets and rivet nuts , which helps users to plan different placing operations , monitor the work process and easily analyse the resulting data .
“ The system is connected to the riveting tools and , depending upon the working methods and predetermined settings made by the operator , the work of one or more tools can be monitored in real-time to avoid mistakes and deactivations . The results are improved productivity , higher standards of work and reduced levels of waste ,” explained the Italian manufacturer .
CONTROLRIV4.0 is designed in modules , with a Primary and 11 Replica so that up to 12 workstations can be managed simultaneously . The Primary , with a touch-screen display and userfriendly software , can interact with a PC and a PLC . It downloads all work data on portable storage drives .
The Replica , more compact than the Primary , manages the operation of the riveting tool by indicating its status on integrated LEDs . Although all the work is managed by the Primary , the Replica in certain configurations can also communicate with the PLC independently .
“ Assembly operation monitoring is done by study of the curves , piece and batch counters as well as work lists . Monitoring
is supported by stored batch data , all check activities , implemented work lists and by recorded curves . For working phases , visual and sound alerts have been designed to flag correct or incorrect applications ( i . e . lack of air , in the latter case ). In addition , for a clearer and more visible reference , a three-colour luminous tower with alarm siren is also available ,” added Rivit Srl .
Every single unit features a pneumatic valve that turns compressed air on and off to safely secure the system , distinguish working phases from configuration ones and prevent further errors in the event of an incorrect application result .
CONTROLRIV4.0 works with tools for rivet nuts RIV938 , RIV939 , RIV949 and RIV916B , and with tools for blind rivets RIV503 , RIV504 , RIV508 , RIV511B and RIV300 . n
Fossil-free steel for automotive market
SSAB has entered an agreement with U . S . -based Shape Corp ., a Tier-One automotive supplier of lightweight body structures , to deliver fossil-free steel crash management and body structure systems to market . Shape will be testing SSAB ’ s fossil-free steel , the first steel product made of hydrogen-reduced sponge iron utilising HYBRIT technology , for use in automotive applications .
“ We are excited to welcome Shape as our first partner for fossil-free steel in the U . S . and look forward to jointly explore ways to mitigate climate change ,” said Martin Lindqvist , President and CEO , SSAB . “ Demand for fossil-free steel is increasing , one of the reasons for us to bring forward our green transition with the ambition to largely eliminate carbon dioxide emissions around 2030 .”
SSAB aims to deliver fossil-free steel to the market at commercial scale during 2026 . It works with iron ore producer , LKAB , and energy company , Vattenfall , as part of the HYBRIT initiative to develop a value chain for fossil-free iron- and steel production , replacing the coking coal traditionally used for iron ore-based steelmaking with fossil-free electricity and hydrogen . This process “ virtually eliminates carbon dioxide emissions in steel production .”
Shape aims to reduce its global carbon emissions by 30 % by 2030 and be carbon-free by 2035 . n
