iRoll eXtreme control

Italian plate and angle roll manufacturer , DAVI , has just launched its new control system , iRoll eXtreme , for plate rolls . It features a new ergonomic console with a high-resolution touch-screen and live 3D interface .
“ A smartphone-like , human-machine interface ( HMI ) experience will make programming easier than ever , thanks to integrated Artificial Intelligence functionality ,” DAVI told ISMR . “ Smartphone-like environments can be tailored with high-definition widgets . Users can zoom in and zoom out for the required view of the machine and its accessories .” New features introduced include 3D simulation for easy programming and live visualisation of the rolling process , Assisted Manual Mode ( with Multi-Pass Aid and an accurate Apple-Shape Calculator ) and Talk & Watch with Smart Glasses . Realtime fabrication fine-tuning can be made using high-res 3D simulation . A multi-pass aid generates an automated
WATCH sequence for the selected number of passes . A re-rolling aid
suggests the most appropriate
VIDEO apple-shaped geometry ( ASME Tolerances Compliance System ).
“ With all these innovative new functionalities , as well as intuitive Phase Programming and a variety of templates available for programming cylinders , cones and custom shapes , the new iRoll eXtreme will enable users to maximize their throughput . The Real-Time Correction tool also allow users to easily and quickly modify the relevant segment of any shape ,” added DAVI . n

A strong grip

DESTACO has announced another advance in its portfolio of lightweight , high-performance sheet metal grippers designed to improve operations in press shop applications . The new patented 84N5 Series sheet metal gripper expands the number of solutions available in DESTACO ’ s high-speed portfolio of 84N family series of grippers . The 84N5 Series grippers are part of DESTACO ’ s Accelerate ® Collection , which are designed to help users boost productivity in automotive manufacturing press shop stamping lines .
Operating at actuations speeds of 78 milliseconds ( ms ), the 84N5 grippers maintain a firm grip force of 1200N at 5 bar ( 72.5psi ). They are designed to produce low wear that increases operational life with minimal field maintenance needed , while producing more stamped parts per hour .
“ Uptime , faster throughput with reduced maintenance and costs are critical for our customers to stay competitive ,” said Gary Labadie , Global Product Director , Grippers for DESTACO . “ This new gripper product delivers and exceeds on those key application metrics . The result is a universal highly configurable , fully adjustable gripper that is more durable , easy to reconfigure , reduces a customer ’ s on-site inventory requirements and is very costeffective .”
The 84N5 grippers are available in fixed , double-open and 90-degree jaw configurations . The jaws are interchangeable and can be quickly adjusted in the field in ten minutes or
less with a single Allen wrench . The jaws include a visual opening angle indicator and are adjustable anywhere from a 15- to 75-degree opening angle . A series of colour-coded tips lets the user visually know which sheet metal thickness can be gripped . The 84N5 jaws are universally designed to accept both single- and double-tip designs , which increases overall application flexibility . Sensing solutions include in-jaw sensing that validates if a part is positioned between the jaws . The side-body sensing option includes two sensors that lets the user self-determine whether single blank , double blank , full open or full close operation is necessary .
“ Because of its compact size , the 84N5 gripper has the versatility to fit into any press shop tooling and mounting configuration . The 84N5 gripper includes a fail-safe locking mechanism , preventing part drop in the event that the gripper loses air pressure . The parts remain securely gripped , which reduces scrap from an e-stop event ,” concluded the manufacturer . n
