Laser plate cutting meets machining
“ The new Voortman V210 extends our V353 machine by combining laser cutting speed and precision with the versatility of machining. The V210 extension adds drilling, tapping and milling to the V353 fibre laser set-up to enable complete plate processing. This hybrid solution is suitable for steel service centres and machinery fabricators who aim to deliver productionready products while taking advantage of maximum efficiency and full automation for faster throughput,” Dutch steel fabricator, Voortman, told ISMR.
Plate processing in one set-up
The V353 is a large-format, high-speed fibre laser system. Extended with the V210 plate processing machine, it ensures alignment between laser-cut and machined features.
“ Operating as a separate gantry, the V210 runs simultaneously on the same bed without compromising laser quality, expanding the V353’ s flexibility and offering an integrated plate processing solution,” explained Stef Rohaan, a product manager at Voortman.
“ The V210 processes plates of up to 75mm( three inches) thick and drills highquality holes up to 50mm( two inches) with threads up to M30. It features 28 tools for maximum flexibility supported by an eightposition, gantry-mounted tool-changer for quick swaps near the drilling head and an optional 20-position stationary changer for fully automated tool exchanges. The highstability drill clamps suppress vibration, enabling the high-torque spindle to deliver full power for better hole quality, longer tool life and no tip damage,” he continued.

The process is fully automated, with only plate loading and finished product removal done manually.
“ This set-up enables high-mix, lowvolume and batch production in one workflow. Users can seamlessly switch between cutting and machining without moving the plate. The result: faster throughput, less crane time and reduced work-in-progress,” added Rohaan.
While most operations are completed by the laser, the V210 adds drilled holes, tapped threads, countersinks and milled pockets to deliver production ready- parts.

“ This allows steel service centres and machinery fabricators to operate as a true one-stop shop,” concluded Rohaan.
