According to the International Monetary Fund ( IMF ), the very large global disruptions that started with the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine , triggering “ the largest inflation surge in 40 years ” are behind us . This , it said , is the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one . In the IMF ’ s latest projections ( see page 7 of this issue ), global growth is expected to remain steady at 3.3 per cent this year and next year .
Artificial intelligence ( AI ) continues to reshape manufacturing ; the next decade is expected to see a fundamental shift towards smarter , greener and more resilient industries with emerging markets playing a key role in driving this transformation . Accordingly , on page 22 of this February issue , the potential of Generative AI to revolutionise industrial robotics ( paving the way for more intelligent , adaptable and autonomous machines ) is chronicled .
