The technical hurdles include :
■ Safety and reliability : Ensuring the safety and reliability of Physical AI systems is paramount , especially in industrial settings .
■ Generalisation : Training robots to generalise knowledge and skills to new environments and tasks remains a major challenge .
■ Computational power : Training and running advanced AI models requires significant computational power , raising questions about energy consumption , hardware costs and accessibility .
■ Data efficiency : Developing Physical AI systems that can learn efficiently from limited data remains a key challenge .
collaboration , strong ethical guidelines and proactive planning are essential to ensure that this benefits not only advanced industrial manufacturing , but humanity itself .
In conclusion
The journey from Perception AI to Physical AI , powered by Generative AI , marks a pivotal moment in robotics and automation . We are moving towards a future where robots have a realistic chance to become truly intelligent , adaptive and autonomous in the real world — most likely starting in the controlled environments of modern factories .
Generative AI , which allows robots to understand , reason and create , is currently the cognitive engine driving this transformation . Agentic AI will enable robots to plan , make decisions and pursue goals , while Physical AI will integrate these cognitive
AI focus at Hannover Messe 2025
Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) for manufacturing , in all its forms , will be extensively covered at Hannover Messe from 31 March - 4 April 2025 in Hanover , Germany . Its Smart Manufacturing exhibition area will highlight automation and sensor technology , robotics and logistics automation , as well as drive and fluid technology .
“ Artificial intelligence will revolutionise the entire value chain of manufacturing companies , and in doing so significantly boost their competitiveness . Visitors to Hannover Messe 2025 will gain insights into available and upcoming applications in the market ,” said Hubertus von Monschaw , Global Director Trade Fair and Product Management , Hannover Messe , at Deutsche Messe .
Hannover Messe held an AI conference on 22 January 2024 in Frankfurt , Germany , showing how companies could put AI technologies successfully to use .
■ Ethical and societal implications : The increasing automation capabilities of Physical AI raise concerns about potential job displacement . Proactive measures , such as retraining and reskilling programmes , are needed .
