The hydraulic plate roll bending machine utilises the power of hydraulic pressure to manoeuvre the work roll to bend and shape the plate . Through strategic adjustments in the rotation movement and position of the working rollers , the machine can process various parts encompassing oval , arc and cylindrical components . Metal rolling specialist , the Faccin Group , has developed the electric-hydraulic plate roll , known as the FACCIN 4-Roll Direct Electric-Drive Plate Roll 4HEP-MPE series , which integrates the hydraulic motion of the bending rolls with the electric rotation of the top roll .
“ Hydraulic machines excel in efficiently handling a wide range of thicknesses . In comparison , hybrid models ( such as the 4HEP-MPE ) can effectively accommodate plates with a maximum thickness of 34mm and a maximum length of 3050mm ,” commented Donatella Fumagalli , the Faccin Group ’ s marketing manager .
“ The extraordinary rolling speeds achieved by the FACCIN hybrid design 4HEP-MPE are truly impressive , clocking in at an astounding 10m / minute . This is a remarkable 100 % acceleration in speed compared to other machines in the market . [ This means a ] significant surge in productivity for operators and managers . The high-efficiency electricdrive design can lead to remarkable cost savings , as energy consumption costs can be reduced by up to 35 %,” she explained .

Hybrid plate rolling

In addition , the 4HEP-MPE provides users with ergonomic advantages due to its lowered working height , for easier handling and operation of steel plates . The hybrid model is also designed for a noise-free experience with a reported reduction of approximately 15 decibels .
“ The innovative proportional hydraulic system on Faccin models enables users to achieve exceptional precision in roll positioning . This system flawlessly controls the oil feeding , ensuring impeccable rotation accuracy . For the electric-drive 4HEP-MPE , the system has been further improved as the upper roll ’ s rotation is controlled by an electric motor driven by a Variable Frequency Drive . This advanced feature enhances control of the braking torque , enabling higher utilisation of the maximum torque of the reducer . This provides superior performance during pre-bending operations , maximizing overall efficiency ,” continued Donatella Fumagalli .
The centralised lubrication system in the electric-drive 4HEP-MPE series also offers significant cost savings for maintenance . The hydraulic system requires a reduced tank size , resulting in a reported 70 % decrease in the required oil volume . With a reduction in valves , hoses and components , this design creates ample space for maintenance tasks , allowing for efficient upkeep .
“ This system not only improves the overall performance and longevity of the machine but also minimizes the frequency of oil replacement . Consequently , this leads to a significant reduction in the amount of oil waste ,” added Donatella Fumagalli .
This improvement in operational efficiency results in a reported 35 % reduction in operating costs , according to Faccin . For the past three years , and in accordance with its focus on sustainability , Faccin Group has maintained the pricing of its electric-drive model at a level comparable to the hydraulic model . Visitors to Blechexpo in Stuttgart , Germany , recently were able to see the model and engage in live demonstrations at the exhibition .
