Olympic Steel Inc ., a leading U . S . metals service centre , has announced that Michael A . Tookey has joined it in the newly created role of ‘ Director , Coated Products ’.
In this position , Mr . Tookey ’ s responsibilities will focus the company ’ s efforts on accelerating growth related to coated carbon flat-rolled products and processes including galvanized , galvannealed , aluminised and automotive grades of steel . He will report directly to David J . Gea , President , Carbon Flat-Rolled .
“ Mike ’ s years of experience in our industry , particularly on the mill side of the business , will be a significant benefit to Olympic Steel in our ongoing growth efforts ,” said Gea . “ Carbon flat products represent approximately 50 % of our revenue mix . Mike ’ s efforts will help us continue to diversify and grow in higher-return , value-added products and services .”
Mr . Tookey joins Olympic Steel with more than 20 years of global metals industry sales and service experience . He earned his Bachelor of Science in International Business and Marketing from Pennsylvania State University and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business . Martin Lundstedt , President & CEO of Volvo Group , has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Commercial Vehicle Board of the European Automobile Manufacturers ’ Association ( ACEA ).
“ 2023 will be a year like no other for setting the future roadmap of the European truck industry ,” stated Mr Lundstedt . “ For truck makers it is crystal clear , our full focus is on decarbonising road transport – absolutely everything should underpin this effort .”
The European Commission is expected to revise the CO₂ regulation for heavy-duty vehicles this year . “ Policy-makers should keep in mind that decarbonising road transport requires more than just targets for vehicle manufacturers ,” cautioned Lundstedt . “ This is a B2B market , so it will move rapidly as soon as the enabling conditions – such as charging and refuelling infrastructure , and cost parity – are well established .”
Mr Lundstedt was re-elected for a second one-year term from amongst the members of ACEA ’ s Commercial Vehicle Board :
In December 2022 , the Board of Directors of the European Automobile Manufacturers ’ Association ( ACEA ) also elected Luca de Meo , CEO of Renault Group , as its President for 2023 . On 1 January 2023 , he took over the presidency from BMW ’ s CEO , Oliver Zipse .
Oliver Zipse commented : “ These past years have been marked by the COVID pandemic , supply chain disruptions , the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis – all of which have had a profound impact on our sector . Nevertheless , the European auto industry has been the reliable industrial backbone of the EU in highly volatile times .
