Bringing forward capital investment decisions to the present will enable the industry to bounce back from the effects of the pandemic far more quickly
of the intention amongst the engineering community to demonstrate its resilience and to show exactly why the confidence surrounding the sector is not misplaced . There is a clear appetite to do business , as well as a desire to restore the manufacturing industries to their rightful place within the UK economy ,” he added .
MACH 2022 will also be a forum for companies looking to adopt and invest in the digital revolution . A series of free speaker and exhibitor seminars , on important industry topics , will be held throughout the event . These include economic updates , project news , digitalisation , automation etc .
“ Showcasing live , digital production systems in one space , it is not to be missed . Hundreds of millions of pounds worth of business is discussed , secured and completed at the exhibition ,” added James Selka .
For 2022 , there are extra incentives in place for companies looking to invest in the latest machine technology , principally the Super Deduction initiative announced by the UK

■ 80 % of exhibitors raised their profile .
■ 38 % of exhibitors launched new products .
■ 51 % of exhibitors received tenders / quotation requests .

Chancellor last year . Running until 31 March 2023 , the scheme means that companies investing in qualifying new plant and machinery assets will be able to claim a 130 % super-deduction capital allowance on their plant and machinery investment , plus a 50 % first-year allowance for qualifying special rate assets .
The super-deduction scheme will allow UK companies to cut their tax bill by up to 25p for every £ 1 they invest . The incentive scheme is intended to jump-start the manufacturing sector as it looks to bounce back quickly from the pandemic-induced recession . The UK Office for Budget Responsibility ( OBR ), said the MTA , has predicted that the scheme could encourage manufacturers to bring forward investment plans originally scheduled for much later in the decade .
“ With MACH 2022 falling right in the middle of the scheme ’ s two-year window , the timing of the show could not be better . Bringing forward capital investment decisions to the present will enable the industry to bounce back from the effects of the pandemic far more quickly ,” explained Selka .
Themes and focus
With UK manufacturing being such a ‘ broad church ’, the MTA is collaborating with other associations in the sector , many of which are taking pavilions at the MACH show . These include the MMMA ( UK Metal Forming Machinery Makers association ), which will be bringing one of the largest pavilions to the NEC

to ensure that the needs of the metal working sector are represented alongside those of the other manufacturing technologies .
“ In this way , MACH is not just a showcase for the manufacturing technologies sector , but a celebration of the manufacturing industry at its best – the development of the digital factory , new automation solutions and connected manufacturing processes , power by the hour and the cost efficiency solutions that will dramatically improve production processes and help shape the industry over the next decade ,” said the show organiser .
Other themes during the show will be decarbonisation and the drive to secure a net zero economy . Decarbonisation is predicted to be one of the major growth opportunities for the manufacturing sector in the next few decades . The Committee on Climate Change believes that the UK ’ s commitment to net zero by 2050 alone could cost an additional one to two per cent of GDP .
New opportunities for the UK ’ s manufacturing supply chain will also be a focus . The MTA believes a more sustainable approach to the UK supply chain , with more intelligent sourcing of product from within the UK , will benefit the entire economy .
There will also be several zones at MACH where visitors will find a sharper focus on key technologies , services , ideas and education ( including job and apprenticeship opportunities ). MACH offers guided tours of the exhibition halls , led by apprentices and graduates working in the industry . Students can interact with role models from industry whilst obtaining valuable careers advice . The guided tours include exhibits in the E & D ( Education & Development ) Zone and a wide range of stands around the exhibition , varying from presentations to hands-on activities .
