FOCUS ON COIL PROCESSING

The sheet material on the line .
EDITOR ’ S NOTE
The new CTL line can handle a wide range of colour-coated coil systems .
“ The high-precision shear control developed by b + s Automation GmbH makes it possible to maintain low shape tolerances of the sheet at the specified belt speeds ,” added Heinrich . At the end of the cut-to-length line , a Burghardt + Schmidt GmbH swing-arm stacking machine ensures that sensitive material surfaces are treated particularly gently through to the final processing steps . It has two stacking positions , which can also be used together for long sheet . All stops in the stacking area are moved electrically so that there is no damage to the belt edges during de-stacking .
Energy efficiency and automation
The hydraulic functions of the cut-to-length line are supplied with the necessary pressure and volume flow from a central power unit , with all machine groups having their own valve blocks .
For this purpose , the main drives are equipped with DC intermediate circuits via frequency converters , which enable energy exchange between the components . As soon as a drive is running generatively , it feeds energy into the DC link which is then available to the other units . In this way , a high degree of energy efficiency can be achieved for the running system . The electrical components are housed together in a walk-in and airconditioned control cabinet container so that maintenance can be carried out easily and comfortably .
The entire cut-to-length line can be controlled from one main control panel . All areas of the system can be viewed on screens . In addition , two auxiliary control panels are available . The automation has an interface to Level 3 , so that fully automatic transfer of the production data and pre-setting of the system to the products are possible . The finished products are reported back to a user ’ s PPS after processing in the cut-to-length line .
“ When developing the system , we attached great importance to relieving the operator ’ s workload as much as possible ,” Heinrich concluded . “ Should problems ever arise , the automation also enables full remote access by the b + s Service Centre .” n
Burghardt + Schmidt GmbH was founded in 1945 and manufactures innovative machines and systems for cutting and levelling metal strip . It has many years of experience in the thin strip sector and specialises primarily in slitting lines , stretch-bend levellers , packaging lines , traverse winders , levellers , cut-to-length lines and strip processing lines .
Schnutz GmbH ’ s roots go back to a blacksmith ’ s shop founded in 1846 by Martin Schnutz , whose focus increasingly shifted to the design and construction of sheet metal working machines as the sheet metal industry in the Siegerland region grew at the turn of the 20th century . In 1882 , Schnutz was manufacturing its first levellers . Its most recent innovations include the Schnutz-Multidrive multi-motor drive and a further development of the electric motor support systems . Since 2014 , the company has been part of the b + s Group . b + s Automation GmbH is a mediumsized automation specialist and was founded in 1995 as DTA Delta Technik Automation GmbH . It offers automation solutions based on the latest technology for the initial equipment of new plants and the modernisation of existing plants . Since 2018 , it has been a member of the b + s group and also delivers technology for conveyor systems .
