FOCUS ON COIL PROCESSING

A COIL IN TIME

A new cut-to-length ( CTL ) line for Wolfgang Fischer Stahl features a rewinding system that enables flat and dimensional sheets to be fabricated in small batch sizes .

Systems for the packaging of coils , small coils , slit strips and sheet must meet a range of different requirements , depending upon the material . The finishing formats , as well as the number of pieces , their size , thicknesses and possible coatings also play a role . They need to ensure , for example , particularly gentle handling of very sensitive surfaces as well as compliance with short setup times or the option to handle partial coils .

To supply its customers with smaller batch sizes individually in the future , North Rhine- Westphalia-based Wolfgang Fischer Stahl GmbH installed a new cut-to-length line from b + s Group in December 2020 as part of the expansion of its steel service centre . The line enables the flexible production of flat and dimensional sheet in any number of pieces that are not bound to the size of complete coils . Even different coating systems , e . g . for a wide range of colours , for surface protection or for storage and transport purposes , can be handled by the new highly automated cut-tolength line .
Wolfgang Fischer Stahl GmbH specialises in work processes and performance in coil-coated and surface-treated coils ; small coils ; slit strip ; flat and dimensional plate as well as surface finishing . The company is one of the leading steel service centres throughout Europe in steel construction , building elements , roof and façade technology and building plumbing . Fischer Stahl has a storage and production facility at its Netphen site , centrally located in the border triangle of North Rhine-Westphalia , Hesse and Rhineland- Palatinate ( Germany ).
Flexible processing
“ When expanding its machine park , Fischer Stahl attached particular importance to the ability to supply its customers with even smaller batch sizes than before , if required ,” said Dr . -Ing . Lutz-Stefan Heinrich , managing director of Schnutz GmbH ( which is part of the b + s Group ). “ It was therefore clear from the outset that the new cut-to-length line had to be able to process partial coils .”
