Making its mark

AIDA-America , a metal stamping press manufacturer in Dayton , OH ( USA ), will demonstrate its press technology on booth 3909 at FABTECH ® Mexico 2023 . Two AIDA presses , along with AIDA ’ s Allen-Bradley based control for larger servo presses , will be demonstrated at this year ’ s FABTECH ® Mexico from 16-18 May 2023 at Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City .
The first , an AIDA single-point , mechanical gap frame press , is part of AIDA ’ s gap frame press line , with models ranging from 35 to 250 tons . A rapid hydraulic overload protection ( HOLP ) at 10m / s , a highly rigid frame with low angular deflection and tight clearances ( to minimise reverse tonnage ) are a few standard features of these NC1 Series presses .
The second is AIDA ’ s A Series single point , direct-drive gap frame servo press , showcasing AIDA ’ s Allen-Bradley control .
“ Standard DSF-C1-A Allen-Bradley control features include a swing-arm mounted 12 in . colour touch-screen HMI ; an Allen-Bradley servo motion controller on ControlLogix ® platform ; 150 job recipe storage and an integrated tonnage monitor ( peak only ). Other features include a step-feed ( CNC handwheel ) slide motion control for ease of die set-up ; eight PLS cams ; eight-channel die protection with PNP / NPN signals ; display of actual / virtual crank angles and ergonomically designed optical run buttons to provide the highest level of safety while helping to reduce operator
fatigue ,” explained AIDA .
“ Additional AIDA DSF-C1-A series highlights are a next-generation servo motor with 5-10 % higher speeds than our previous generation gap frame servo presses ; a capacitorbased Energy Conservation and
AIDA single-point , mechanical gap frame press .
Optimisation ( ECO ) system that reduces peak energy draw and a modern Electronic Over Load Protection ( EOLP ) system that monitors applied torque through the complete stroke to prevent overloading ,” it added .
This press will be blanking parts with AIDA ’ s optimised servo silent blanking stroke motion profile , which can only be achieved on a servo press . The new DSF-C1-A Series product line is offered in a range of tonnages from 80 to 250 tons .
Additionally , AIDA will be exhibiting its Allen- Bradley-based servo press control for servo presses from 315 – 3,500 tons . This operational and interactive 19 in . PC touch-screen Allen- Bradley control will demonstrate several servo press stroke motion profiles in real-time on a virtual press . Control features include direct

Double-sheet detection

The lightweight SHX sensor bracket has been designed by Roland Electronic GmbH for the effective integration of double-sheet sensors in vacuum tooling . SHX is also suitable for retrofitting .
“ Utilising a central spring combined with a belt , the bracket does not need any guides . As a result , this solution offers almost ideal operating behaviour . Placement on sloping TWB stacks is easy to manage ; placing is convenient , so that collisions of the sensor or the sensor plug with the upper plate are a thing of the past , even with the most sloping stacks ,” explained the manufacturer .
“ An essential property of a good sensor bracket is the mobility of the suction plate . In the extended state , this is a basic requirement for performing reliable doublesheet control . However , this mobility [ must be offset against the requirement to be ] as stiff as possible in the extended state . The spring-belt combination meant that this challenge was solved with the SHX sensor bracket . A huge benefit is that guiding is not necessary ,” it added .
Wear and tear , as well as jamming , are things of the past , according to Roland Electronic GmbH . Significant weight saving is possible , as the spring-belt system has a small mass . In the extended state , the bracket is designed for acceleration in the horizontal 2g direction . Component-transfer is therefore no longer a limiting factor .
“ The SHX sensor bracket , in combination with the high-performance sensors of our E20 double-sheet control system , finally solves known application issues , so that reliable double-sheet control is guaranteed . This avoids costly damage and downtime ,” concluded the manufacturer . n
