FROM THE EDITOR
2023 is the European Year of Skills . The European Union is bringing workers ; industry ; social partners ; training providers and national , regional and local authorities together to prioritise education , vocational training and reskilling and upskilling .
“ We need to bring youth unemployment down and enable more women to enter the labour market , because we have to make the most of Europe ’ s potential and because it is people and their [ expertise ] who drive positive change ,” commented Ursula von der Leyen , President of the European Commission , in a recent report .
With that in mind , and in line with International Women ’ s Day recently , we highlight an article on page 18 of this issue by Lucy Pringle on how to get more women into manufacturing . Hope is not a strategy ; it ’ s time to do things differently . In doing so , you are likely to give your business a competitive advantage and create a more robust and effective working culture .
On page 20 , you can read about the benefits of additive manufacturing for the creation of lighter , stronger parts and systems , with individual customisations . It enables a designdriven manufacturing process , where design determines production and not the other way around .
Growth patterns , technology innovations , trends and forecasts for global home appliance markets are highlighted for manufacturers on page 26 . We also outline macroeconomic forecasts for Poland and trends in its automotive sector for manufacturers on page 34 .
