FOCUS ON COIL PROCESSING

The new slitting line is designed for larger carbon steel coils of up to 18t . New coil set-up is highly automated .
the slitting shear , the line is designed for larger carbon steel coils of up to 18t compared to the old system . The mobile coil storage system has two coil positions so that changing the coils takes less time . Loading the system with a new coil is now highly automated .
“ Up to now , several manual steps were still necessary for this ,” explained Achim Kunz , managing director of b + s . “ Thanks to our selfdeveloped plant processes , we now achieve a higher level of automation and the new coil is ready for series production at the touch of a button .”
The system also runs significantly faster than its predecessor , with a speed of up to 200m / minute . Due to the increase in throughput as a result , the Traunreut plant can now not only supply its own production of cookers and hobs with matching sheet metal parts , but also supply other production sites belonging to the BSH Group .
Customisation and safety
Another requirement that the BSH Group placed on the new slitting line concerned the safety technology and this was not just to bring the outdated standards of the older machine up to date .
“ After setting up the system here at the plant , we realised that our safety philosophy exceeds the level generally used in the industry ,” explained Radloff .
To meet internal processes in Tranreut , b + s adapted the line ’ s system control . For example , it was originally assumed that the slitting line would only be operated by one person . It was therefore possible to move individual machine parts even when the safety gate was open . At the Traunreut plant , however , it is common practice for up to two employees to be working on the system at the same time , which is why the standard specification would have suffered safety-related weaknesses in day-to-day production there .
“ Each production facility has its own operating procedures and correspondingly different needs in terms of its machinery , which sometimes only emerge during implementation ,” added Kunz . n

About b + s

Burghardt + Schmidt GmbH ( b + s ) was founded in 1945 and manufactures machines and systems for cutting and levelling metal strip . The products are tailored to the needs of customers .
The company has many years of experience in the thin strip sector and specialises primarily in slitting lines ; stretch-bend levellers ; packaging lines ; traverse winders ; levellers ; cut-to-length lines and strip processing lines . At its German site in Remchingen , systems are developed and manufactured with the “ Made in Germany ” quality feature .
The roots of Schnutz GmbH go back to a blacksmith ’ s shop founded in 1846 by Martin Schnutz , whose focus increasingly shifted to the design and construction of sheet metal working machines as the sheet metal industry in the Siegerland region grew at the turn of the 20th century . In 1882 , Schnutz manufactured its first levellers . The most recent innovations include the Schnutz-Multidrive multi-motor drive and a further development of its electric motor support systems . Since 2014 , the company has belonged to the b + s group . b + s AUTOMATION GmbH is a medium-sized automation specialist , founded in 1995 as DTA DELTA TECHNIK Automation GmbH . Offering automation solutions for initial plant equipment and plant modernisation , the company has expertise in drive / safety technology and precision controls . Since 2018 , it has been a member of the b + s group and , with a change of name in 2021 to b + s AUTOMATION , delivers technology for conveyor systems .
