Some designers like to be minimalistic, but I like to have pieces from my clients’ travel showcased or a gift from someone special in their life so that when they walk into the home, it’ s not just furniture. When they walk through the house, there’ s something that makes them smile or reminds them of a relative or a friend or a trip.”
Thomson encourages clients to,
“ Hold on to things that mean something to you. I recently reframed some of my grandmother’ s oil paintings and I did a very modern frame because her artwork is all very traditional. Seeing‘ her’ in my home in a more modern aesthetic is so impactful.”

Las Vegas presents its own unique challenges with the high temperatures and brisk winds, so for clients looking to embrace indoor / outdoor living, Thomson has to work around the elements. It’ s here where her creativity and problem-solving abilities truly shine. For example, on the home she recently did in Ascaya, she helped her clients envision and create an enclosed courtyard with the centerpiece being a giant yucca tree.
While it wasn’ t on the original plans, as she got to know the family, she knew this could be a great addition because it wouldn’ t allow the sunlight to reflect in too much, so they could keep the shades open, while allowing the yucca tree to remain prominent.
Thomson points out,“ We showcased the landscaping in the courtyard and we did a backdrop of a light stone that was textural to make the green of the yucca tree pop. Incorporating things like floor-to-ceiling windows and knowing the orientation of how the sun will travel over the house and where to use those pocket doors are all key.”
While she likes classic color combos like black with camel, she’ s also not afraid to embrace the kitsch.“ One thing I absolutely love is encouraging my clients to
