very deliberate way to capture the architectural allure in a manner that still works structurally.
Cutler describes that,“ in the family room, we have floorto-ceiling glass that looks out to this view and somehow you have to figure out how to do this with your pocketing doors, and still have some shade pockets without it seeming like you’ ve had to put some serious structure into it. In this house, we used a lot of structural steel to make this happen.”
In addition to the unrivaled view, Cutler has a few favorite features including the gas lanterns, reminiscent of New Orleans, which he incorporated in the front and back of the house taking the place of lights. He’ s also partial to the pool area with its fire features, plus the sunken fire pit that overlooks the canyon. He wistfully notes,“ You can go out there and stargaze and enjoy the unique ambiance. And in the backyard, I have a green living wall and you kind of meander through this little path to the sport court area. It has pickleball, basketball and volleyball. Within that space is what we call‘ The Sports Bar,’ a completely covered area with TVs, an outdoor shower, and an indoor, climatized bathroom. Off of that fire pit is a little nature trail that goes up to the top of the mountain. And if you walk about another three minutes past there, beyond our gate, you’ ll have a 360-degree, unobstructed view of the valley.”
In addition to the outdoor sports area, the house has a unique entertaining space in the upstairs game room, which boasts a rural, Montana look. You and your guests can play pool, watch the game on the 98-inch TV and enjoy a drink at the bar, all with phenomenal canyon views.
Despite its size, 23 Sanctuary Peak was built with efficiency in mind and Cutler admits he pays more for energy in his current 4,200-square-foot home than he does for this 10,400-squarefoot property! He explains,“ We do what’ s called a‘ cocoon system’ so all of our roofs have a blow-in foam insulation that’ s about 10 inches thick and it is a lot more resilient to the heat. It insulates all of our attic spaces as well.
All of our fixtures are conducive to water conservancy. Most of the lighting in the home is all LED lighting so it’ s all low energy.”
With its striking views, expansive living space and energy efficiency, this modern farmhouse masterpiece is ready to be your new sanctuary.
