Seek out the Halloween haunts

repare to be scared this autumn with
the Isle of Wight Ghost Experience’s
bumper programme of walks,
investigations, special events and meals.
There are plenty of ghostly goings-on,
as Marc Tuckey takes you to some of the
spookier spots on the Island. There’s a
Shanklin Ghost Walk on Sunday, October
26 at 7pm, meeting at the Vernon
Meadows car park, and the following night
there’s the Carisbrooke Ghost Walk at 7pm,
meeting at the car park of Carisbrooke
Castle.
On Tuesday, October 28 there’s the Fort
Victoria Ghost Walk at 7pm, meeting at Fort
Victoria’s car park, and the Arreton Ghost
Walk, with optional supper is the following
night from 7pm.
Newport Ghost Walk is on October 30 at
7pm, meet outside the Wheatsheaf Pub,
while on Halloween, October 31 there’s
the Ventnor Botanic Gardens Ghost Walk
at 7pm, with an overnight investigation
starting at Arreton Barns at 10pm.
On Saturday, November 1 there’s a Ghost
Walk and bonfire at Ventnor Botanic
Gardens from 6pm, and the following day
there’s an Afternoon Tea and Ghost Walk,
starting at Off the Rails at Yarmouth.

Fangs and food at Morgans
M
organs Restaurant in Shanklin will
be hosting a special Fancy Dress
Halloween party on Friday, October 31
in aid of the Sandown and Shanklin
Independent Lifeboat.
The evening begins at 7.30pm and
there will be plenty to keep everyone
entertained, with popular duo Simon
Ledger and Joe Scott providing the live
music, along with apple bobbing and a
spaghetti lucky dip!
A hot buffet will be served at 11pm
with chilli, curry and poppadoms on the
menu, and vodka blood jellies.
Morgans invite you to take along your
own carved pumpkin to the restaurant
in High Street, Shanklin, before opening
time, so they can be put on display, with the
owner of the best one winning a bottle of
bubbly.
Tickets are just £5, and the winner of
the best fancy dress costume will pick
up a first prize of £25. Book early to

Carve your own pumpkin in Chale
Y
oung would-be sculptors will be
putting their skills to the test in Chale
when the annual Pumpkin Carving
Workshop takes place. The event is being
held at Chale Green Stores on Wednesday,
October 29 from 9.30am until 11.40am.
Bookings are now being taken for the fun
competition either by calling into Chale
Green Stores, or by calling (01983) 551201.
The entry price is £5 per child, which
includes a soft drink and a cake - and of
course the carefully carved pumpkin!
