Autumn Gardening
overseeded. Apply seed and rake well
into the soil. Turf can also be laid now.
It is still a buzz harvesting homegrown
crops like courgettes, pumpkins,
potatoes and apples. The weather often
decides which crops will do well but
there is always satisfaction when one
succeeds.
Over wintered onion sets, garlic and
broad beans can be planted now. Also
spring cabbage and winter salads do
well. Sow every two weeks for longer
cropping. After clearing vacant areas of
the vegetable patch add compost and
organic matter ready for the spring.
Consider planting fruit bushes and
fruit trees to extend the homegrown
range. Rhubarb crowns and strawberry
plants can be planted now along with
raspberry canes and currant bushes.
