A WORD
FROM THE
EDITOR
After one of the most protracted winters
for years, it’s been a bigger relief than
usual to finally be able to get into the
outdoors again.
Here’s hoping for continued sunny skies,
to shine on some of the Island’s biggest
and most enjoyable events of the summer.
Events such as the Round the Island
Yacht Race, the annual spectacle that
can be enjoyed just as much from a
spectator’s vantage point on-shore, as
it can from the deck of a boat. In this
issue we feature the history of this iconic
race, and discover some of the colourful
characters who made it what it is.
We also take a look at the colourful
history of another big calendar event of
the season – the internationally-famed
Isle of Wight Festival.
Meanwhile, you’ll find more examples
inside this issue of truly inspiring people,
like gym owner Victoria Coles – an
unbelievably courageous young woman
who tells us why she set herself the
Herculean task of doing 12 marathons in
12 months to raise funds for the cancer
charity that helped her when she needed
it most.
There’s also a profile of multi award-
winning Army boxer Chez Nihell, who
tells us about his plan to turn pro – and
describes how he climbed into the ring
for his first fight even before he reached
his 13th birthday.
Of course you’ll also find all your
favourite regular features, plus plenty
of ideas for places to go, sights to see
and things to do during the summer. As
always, we trust that you’ll enjoy your free
magazine and will continue to support
our loyal advertisers.
