Direct from the
dairy to your door!
For many of us, the trend for buying local produce has been a
relatively recent development – but for the George family, it’s
nothing new at all! In fact the family – now in its third generation
– has been supplying top quality dairy products from Coppid Hall
Farm since the first of the Georges moved there in the 1930s.
It was run by the family as a dairy
farm right through the Second
World War, when it was in the
business of delivering fresh milk
by horse and cart, to hundreds
of local homes and businesses.
Since then CHF has become
better known as Wight Milk,
and now supplies the majority
of the Island more speedily and
efficiently via refrigerated vehicles.
The company sources all its
milk from Island dairies, and then
processes it at the family-run
farm in Havenstreet to produce
a top quality range of products
including delicious cream and
butter as well as whole, skimmed
and semi-skimmed milk.
These are delivered directly,
six days a week, to the doors
of residential and commercial
customers, along with a small
selection of other local produce,
including potatoes and eggs.
For customers who prefer to
collect their own supplies, the farm
came up with a quirky solution
in 2013 – their cute little “milk
shed”, a black and white painted
honesty shop selling the full range
of dairy products along with
bread, milkshakes and eggs, plus
locally-made cakes and preserves.
The shed has become a
popular stop-off for local
residents and passing traffic –
particularly during the summer
when there are also delicious
cooling ice creams on offer.
