MOTORING
Toyota Auris Hybrid
Test driven on the Island by Peter White
It’s every motorist’s dream these
days - finding a car that is easy to
drive; responsive to your every touch;
comfortable; spacious, and with low
fuel consumption and reduced CO2
emissions.
Then look no further than the all new
Toyota Auris Hybrid, which is available to
test drive on the Island from Wight Motors,
College Close, Sandown. The British-built
Auris Hybrid combines an electric motor
with a petrol engine, and seamlessly
switches between the two to ensure you
get the best possible miles per gallon.
It has a cruising range in excess of 300
miles. So basically, it’s pure genius, and
Toyota are so confident of their integral
non ‘plug-in’ batteries that they have
extended the five-year, 100,000-mile
warranty on them to eight years.
From the outside the Auris Hybrid really
looks the part; it’s sleek and sporty, And
the top-of-the-range five-door Excel
Touring Sports that I drove has a large
'Skyview' panoramic roof that provides
that sense of light and space once you
are inside the cabin.
The part-leather seats are very
comfortable, providing a smooth ride
on the slowly-but-surely improving
Island roads. The car is responsive, with
exceptional road handling; the switches
and dials are easy to operate, and the
colour touch screen easily provides all
the information you require, whether it’s
tuning into your favourite radio station,
help with reverse parking or finding your
route on the full map navigation system.
A spacious boot, tinted windows,
electrically operated wing mirrors and
heated front seats are among other
refinements on this car of the future
that is available now! The Excel five-door
Touring Sports Hybrid has an OTR price
of £23,445.00, which in my opinion
makes it true value for money.
