Carisbrooke the
ideal venue for
new High Sheriff
The historic and magnificent Carisbrooke Castle
museum was the setting for the declaration of Claire
Locke as the new High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight.
It was the first time that the castle had been used
for the declaration, and it was also the first in living
memory that the outgoing High Sheriff Mary Case and
the incoming one were both ladies. Claire made the
declaration, swearing her allegiance to the Queen, in
the presence of the Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight,
Maj. Gen. Martin White; Under Sheriff, John Matthews;
Claire’s son Alex, who was sword bearer; Judge Peter
Ralls; Mary Case and Chris Holmes, chairman of the
Bench. Chaplain Kevin Arkell, the Vicar of Newport, was
also in attendance along with some 100 guests.
