Quality and
experience is
key for Henry
Ingram success
W
hether it’s a property new build,
renovation or quality refurbishment, it
is always reassuring to know the work is
being carried out by a reputable Island
company.
There are few better or longer established firms than
Ventnor-based Henry Ingram and Sons Ltd. Founded
in 1840 by Henry Ingram as a carpenter, wheelwright
and undertaker business, the company is now in its
175th year of serving the local community.
One of the Ingrams’ first projects was the building
of St Lawrence Parish Church, and they were also
involved in the construction of the Royal National
Hospital at Ventnor; its subsequent demolition, and
the preparation for the arrival of Ventnor Botanic
Gardens.
Over the years Ingrams built numerous individual
houses, and continued to grow in stature, especially
between the First and Second World Wars. They were
on the tender list for IW Council, various Borough
Councils, Housing Associations, NHS Trust, English
Heritage and National Trust, plying their trade right
across the Island, and more recently built the Cricket
Academy at Ventnor, further testament to their
outstanding workmanship.
Ingrams have a staff of 20 in the building business,
and director Bob Ventress remains a consultant for
Henry Ingram and Sons Funeral Directors, which now
forms part of the Dignity Funeral group.
Ingrams pride themselves on quality refurbishment
and structural repairs of properties, but are happy to
