FOREWORD Centenary celebrations 1907 - 2007 Mottistone Jazz Sat 28 July 2007 Gates open 6.30pm A quintessentially English occasion... A weekend of celebration to mark one hundred years 29th, 30th June and 1st July, 2007 Avoiding the sun in their eyes prompted the 1907 members of Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to acquire ‘three acres two roods and thirty five perches’. A hundred years later, with eight tennis courts and four full size croquet lawns the members invite you to share in their weekend of social tournaments, some in full Edwardian dress, for players of all ages and abilities, washed down with Pimms, cream teas and serenaded by The Ryde School Swing Band. Visit www.rltcc.org.uk for more details. Mottistone Jazz is back for one night only with music from the Pete Allen Band, the Goose Island Syncopators and the Ryde School Swing Band. The gardens of Mottistone Manor provide the perfect setting for this event which is now in its 20th year and attracts a wide audience from couples to large parties. Some bring just a rug whilst others bring tables, chairs and candelabras! Picnics also range from sandwiches to haute cuisine and guests can choose to sit and enjoy the music or dance the night away. Whatever the size of the party there is something for everyone and you are assured of a warm welcome. The evening is organised by the National Trust, a registered charity, as its main fundraising event on the island. Sponsored by Wightlink and the Isle of Wight County Press, the proceeds help the Trust conserve and protect over 4,000 acres of island countryside, 17 miles of island coastline and several historic island properties. Supporting this event helps this conservation work to continue whilst having a memorable evening. Tickets cost £18 and are available from the National Trust Shop, Brighstone (for debit / credit card sales phone 01983 740689), Wightlink Island ferry terminals or the County Press Shop in Newport.
