New Newport store for BHF
Chairman of Isle of Wight
Council, Councillor Charles
Chapman, joined shop staff
and volunteers to celebrate the
opening of the new British Heart
Foundation (BHF) Home store
in Newport on Tuesday 10th
January.
Funds raised from the store, located on
the high street, will help to fund the BHF’s
pioneering heart research.
Councillor Chapman said: “It was great to
perform the opening of the new BHF Home
store in Newport today and see such a great
response from local residents supporting the
store on its first day of trading. I’m sure the
store will be a tremendous asset to the area
in the future, providing good quality and
affordable home items to the community.”
The new store, which sells furniture and
electrical items, is now calling on local
Newport residents for support. Whether it
be donating any unwanted home items or
volunteering a few hours a week in the store,
they would love to hear from you and can be
contacted on 01983 623190.
The free collection service for larger
household items can be arranged by
contacting the store.
Golfing for good causes
A fun day of golf last
September produced a golden
presentation day at the end
of January – with three local
charities benefitting to the
tune of £2,416.38.
The annual Charity Golf Day event run
by Medina Foodservice at Newport Golf
Club traditionally supports the two main
local children’s charities - Isle of Wight
Youth Trust and Beaulieu Respite Care -
and this year’s guest charity was Naomi
House, which meant that each of the
three good causes was presented with a

cheque for £805.66 each.
The cheque presentations were
made at the Horse and Groom pub
in Ningwood, whose landlord Steve
Gilbert was presented with the golf day
winner’s trophy, by Terry Phillips, captain
of Newport Golf Club in 2016.
On behalf of Medina Foodservice,
MD Steve Ross presented the IW Youth
Trust cheque to Felicity Radak, whilst
Sales Executive Kevin Fisher made the
presentation to Tony Wake of Beaulieu
Respite Care, and Sales Manager Duncan
Smith presented the third cheque to Jo
Landy of Naomi House.
