Surveying period properties
A
huge problem with old buildings
is a lack of experienced building
surveyors capable of assessing
them, be they listed or not.
Wight Heritage Preservation is the
only company on the Island specialising
in the preservation and repair of period
properties. We understand how period
properties are built. Our surveys are
based on passion and detailed working
knowledge of old buildings.
That’s why we can teach you about
your building, unravel some of its
history, and estimate the potential cost
of repairs and maintenance. We don’t
do tick box surveys.
Building surveyors nearly always
recommend injection damp proofing
(which shows they don’t understand
the reasons damp is present). Most
lenders ask for a ‘Timber and Damp’
survey to be undertaken, after the
building survey - which is incorrect as
far as we are concerned - the surveyor
should be able to do that as part of

the survey he does. We have carried
out surveys and preservation work on
many Island properties. If you require
a pre-purchase survey, which will allow
you to have an understanding of any
issues and costs, involved with correctly
maintaining a period home, we will be
happy to help.
Our surveys will give the period home
owner / purchaser an independent
report. Advice will coincide with any
surveys requested from a mortgage
company. We are not chartered or
structural surveyors. We are specialists
in the conservation of period
properties, and feel that passing on our
in-depth knowledge will greatly help
future home owners. Survey costs will
be redeemed against any work carried
out by Wight Heritage Preservation.

Customer testimonial:
“We recently contacted Wight Heritage
preservation as we were interested
in buying a period cottage that had
evidence of damp on the inside walls
and we wanted to know how much
it would cost us to permanently
rectify the problem. Jamie visited the
property to carry out a survey for us
and sent us a detailed written report.
Most companies have very limited
knowledge about how to deal with this
common problem and offer quick fixes
that only last a few years at best, but
Jamie has a much more comprehensive
knowledge of how these houses were
built and hence how to permanently
return them to their former glory. If you
have an old property which is suffering
from persistent damp problems Wight
Heritage Preservation should be your
first port of call “. Matthew, Windsor
