BUSINESS crushes and carefully grades them for various applications. The company recycles 60,000 tons of aggregate annually. Aggregate that would have gone to landfill without this recycling process. The general state of the road surfaces on the Isle of Wight is classified as poor to extremely poor by the Department for Transport, and scheduled for urgent replacement. The traditional approach to restructuring a road is to scrape away and discard the old material and then replace it with a made up of newly quarried (known as first life) aggregate. Now that the Government has decided to completely renew the Island’s roads HJ Bennett is ready with a greener solution. Their Eco-Base system allows the old material to be recycled and laid back down as a durable new surface, reducing energy usage and emissions. The Eco-Base binder captures any toxic components and binds them within the overall mix to render an end product that’s completely safe. This means that there is very little waste and no need for expensive recycling treatments or landfill. The result is a new road sub base at a fraction of the cost and a considerably reduced carbon footprint. Nigel Bennett said: “Way ahead of the rest of the industry we began to develop innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. Today this is what we’re all about, to show how we provide PFIs and utility companies - not only with highly cost-effective solutions - but with a unique and unbeatable environmental answer to road replenishment.” Click4Internet is the reliable solution Click4Internet was founded by Lisa Hollyhead, Farringford’s former owner, after she discovered it hard to attract Corporate bookings because her ‘broadband’ was so slow. Although improvements to the local telephone exchange were promised, she knew that all forms of ‘broadband’ telephone lines and (as with most rural areas) the old phone lines were not going to be renewed, so telephone exchange improvements would not improve speed. She researched that even the fastest ‘broadband’ systems cannot offer good upload - an important factor. With her accounting background Lisa saw that even if some new system could be found to overcome the shortcomings of all ‘broadband’ services, digging trenches and running new lines would be too costly. Realising wireless technology is used to safely guide every airliner and how remote military aircraft, satellites and mars rovers are controlled from many miles away, feeding TV images, all using wireless systems, Lisa realised that a reliable wireless solution would be perfect for rural areas. There was no viable technology available so she teamed up with technical advisors and entrepreneur Frazer Munro to develop Wiber® now a well proven and widely used technology giving fibre-optic style performance delivered through the air. The extensive Wiber® system is used by many of the Island’s best known companies but equally enjoyed by many home users too. Wiber® (Wireless-Fibre) overcomes the uncertain speeds and false promises so commonly associated with all ‘broadband’ systems and the Wiber® network delivers Megaband™ which outperforms all forms of ‘broadband’ improving downloads and offering uploads many times faster. The extensive Wiber® system is used by many of the Island’s best known companies. Click4internet TEL: 01983 898765 www.click4internet.com www.visitislandlife.com 135
