SOCIAL SCENE Laying up supper T he East Cowes Marina Berth Holders held their fifth annual Laying Up Dinner at the Island Sailing Club, Cowes, with 66 members and guests attending. The event, organised by the Berth Holders, also raises money for local charities, and this year the recipients were the Island’s three Independent Lifeboats, at Freshwater, Ryde and Sandown and Shanklin, who receive no funding from the RNLI. 14 www.visitilife.com A raffle helped swell the funds to £1,100, which was split between the three Lifeboats. Tim Griffin, who helped organise the dinner, said: “We would like to thank businesses and individuals in Cowes and East Cowes who donated prizes for the raffle, and sponsored the event.” Entertainment was provided by the Island’s Blue Train Function Band and local magician Huxley Hunt.
