A new masterclass
A new programme developed by Portsmouth Business
School and supported by the Institute of Directors
promises to be a masterclass in developing boardroom
skills. The Boardroom Talent Course begins in
Portsmouth in February and over 10 sessions will provide
business owners, current and aspiring directors and those
new to leadership the tools they need to become talented
and professional directors. Those who book by December
21 will benefit from an Early Bird discount.
Participants will learn practical and solutions-oriented
skills they can put into action from the start. Topics
covered include strategic thinking, operations strategy,
financial management, risk and crisis management,
governance, board dynamics, leadership and
management and problem solving.
Developed to help current and future leaders, it
will add value to their businesses and enhance their
understanding of the key legal responsibilities of
directors. It will give them the confidence to lead
and manage and create opportunities through their
enhanced knowledge. Grant Harrison, IoD Ambassador,
said: “This course is designed to cover all the bases of
effective leadership at director level.”
The course runs for 10 fortnightly sessions from 4-8pm
at 1000 Lakeside, Portsmouth, starting Wednesday,
February 26. To find out more visit www.port.ac.uk/

Cadets visit Dame Vera
Ryde School CCF cadets
were invited to attend the
Remembrance Day Service at the
home village of Dame Vera Lynn,
at Ditchling, East Sussex, and
then to have lunch at her home.
CCF Cadet Annabel
Hutchings said: “Being given
the opportunity to visit Dame
Vera Lynn at her house on
Remembrance Day was amazing,
especially as she was such an
iconic figure in the Second World
War, travelling all over the world
to sing to soldiers to keep morale
high. The day trip was very
interesting and gave the cadets
an insight into the war from a
first-hand account.
CCF Cadet David McGregor
added: “She is such a massive
legend. It was amazing to hear
about her life story and to think
she’s still doing so much now.”
