ISLAND LIFE A chance to tour Quarr Abbey Festivities come to Ventnor Christmas in Ventnor, a new charity event which has grown out of Ventnor Carnival, will have Festive Saturdays are to be held at Quarr Abbey on December 8, 15 and 22 from 11.0am to 2.30pm. The activities will begin with a tour of the Abbey at 11.00 am, with Festive Carol singing. There will also be book signing of ‘A Deep & Subtle Joy: A Life at Quarr Abbey’ and other books written by Father Luke at 12.30 in the Book Shop. Other attractions include an Art Display by Brother Duncan; Festive Arts and Crafts (from wreath making to jewellery making and more); fun for the kids with a squirrel trail, and roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and mince pies. The Quarr Abbey teashop and café will be serving its inaugural festivities in Ventnor on Saturday, December 15. There will be a ‘Best Dressed Window’ competition for businesses and shops in town, a Christmas Fancy Dress competition for the children, a jazz band, Vectis Corp of Drums, mulled wine, mince pies and activities going on throughout the day in Ventnor and at Ventnor Park. At around 5.45pm the Christmas Carnival procession will weave its way through town, finishing at Ventnor Park at approximately 6.30pm. Try Robin Hill to burn the calories Rotary Club's annual sale Shanklin Rotary Club will be holding their 13 and 20, and anyone who has an annual sale for charity at the Lowe Hyde item that might suit the sale should call Holiday Park, Shanklin, from January 15. 07952533363. The Rotary Club raised a record £47,000 for local and international causes last year, and are hoping to set another best this time, with the help of Islanders. The sale room is open from 10.0am to 4.0pm from January 15 to 19, then closes on January 20 and 21, before re-opening until January 26. For the first time the park is opening its gates over the seasonal period between December 27 and 30, 12 6pm, with all tickets being valid for the four day period.
