Kiwi Jo is back
at awesome
Orchard
“It’s awesome to be back,” says Jo.
Considering that Jo has had a baby, got
married, travelled to her native New
Zealand with her new baby – twice – and
lived for some months in seaside Brittany,
it says quite a lot about how dedicated
she is to her clients at the Orchard
Cosmetic Skin Centre.
“I’m really happy to be working with
Maire again,” she says. “ we work very
well as a team and both aim to give our
patients the best experience.”
Now she’s back she has noticed a slight
change in attitudes to skin care. “People
appear more informed, and they have
a better concept of how many of our
treatments work. It’s not such an alien
concept to have IPL (Intensive Pulsed
Light) treatment for hair removal, say.
She has been doing a lot of IPL
treatment since re-joining Dr Maire
Rhatigan at the Orchard Cosmetic Skin
Centre. Winter is an ideal time to have a
course of treatments as non suntanned
skin can be more predictable to treat.
. She has also been doing “a lot of
softening wrinkle treatments using
some excellent injectable dermal fillers,
the results of which I love.” What her
trip back home to New Zealand has

confirmed to her is that, although along
with Australia her native country has
been ahead of Britain in terms of skin
awareness most likey due to the more
skin conditions that have surfaced from
their intense sun, the Orchard Skin Centre
is up to speed with them.
“I went back to my previous Skin
Institute,” she says, “and it’s much
bigger than it was, it’s grown in leaps
and bounds,” she says, explaining that
the original branch has spawned 12 other
satelite clinics. “It is definitely pushing the
boundaries in New Zealand.” So its nice
to know that the Orchard although on a
smaller scale can match them in terms of
equipment, techniques, skin checks and
patient results. Upper face fillers, to treat
the area around the eyes, are an advanced
procedure and particularly popular over
there, Jo notes: but again, the Orchard
is on a level with the best it has to offer.
“Being an eye surgeon, with her greater
knowledge of the anatomy, Maire is
highly skilled in that area.”
Another change she has noticed is that
people are starting to appreciate the
cosmetic skin care available through the
Orchard for their simplicity. “It’s better
to use simple products with effective
ingredients,” she says, acknowledging
how confusing the world of skin beauty
is. “You could go mad b uying creams and
lotions, especially if you’ve got problem
skin. And then, without results it can
become an emotional time. You just want
it to go away, be it acne, brown spot or
excess hair and end up throwing a lot
of money at it: but it’s better to go to a
professional and have a proper indvidual
assessment and discuss realistic options
tailored for you.”
All in all, while Jo misses her much
travelled baby Holly, she is delighted to
be back working with Dr Maire Rhatigan.
“We’ve got a lot of experience between
the two of us to offer, and we team up
well.
“Yes, it’s awesome to be back!”
