Modern, bright and inviting...
“Our plan is to create a
cosmetic centre of excellence
on the Island,” says Rebecca
Gautier of the newly-opened
IOW Dental Studio at St James
Clinic in Newport. Which
is not a modest ambition
– but who needs modesty
when you have expertise?
Dr Jacques Gautier learnt
his dentistry skills in France,
where dental trainees need
to study medicine as part of
their qualification – which
is a comforting thought.
His philosophy is always to
try to save teeth rather than
pull them out, and he is
against unnecessary x-rays.
Dr Gautier’s particular
speciality is cosmetic dental
work, from veneers and teeth
whitening to bridgework.
The clinic, like its sister
branch in Ryde, is equipped
with the very latest in dental
technology. Thanks to the
revolutionary Cerec machine,
and in-house
laboratory,
a permanent
ceramic crown
can be fitted
within two
hours. The
lab also offers
same-day
denture repairs.
An intra-oral
78
camera enables patients to
see the progress of their
treatment: from cavity, to
thorough cleaning, to filling.
“We only use white, composite
fillings,” explains Rebecca.
The photographs become
part of the patient’s record.
If cost is a worry,
interest-free credit terms
will soon be available. And
a huge boon for parents
is that their children are
given free check-ups and
their teeth are treated at a
subsidised rate. Dr Gautier’s
dental nurse is also an NNEB
qualified nursery nurse.
“We do late night openings,
usually mid-week,” says
Rebecca. “But we’re pre pared
to be flexible to suit our
patients.” Which, you suspect,
will be the secret of the
dental studio’s success.
