ISLAND BUSINESS
Stoves are a
sight to behold
Like many real fire
lovers, Peter Moreton
and his wife Ann
resisted buying a
woodburning
stove
because they didn’t
want
to
sacrifice
the pleasure of the
welcoming
open
flames.
But that meant that for 23 years,
they also suffered the downside of
their inglenook open fire - relentless
draughts from the chimney and
occasional smoke problems when
the wind changed direction.
That was until they saw a
Clearview stove at a friend’s home
– and were instantly converted. As
the name suggests, this company’s
top quality steel-built stoves feature
a glass front that simply won’t
smoke up, giving a constant view of
the flames.
“We couldn’t believe the stove had
glass,” said Peter, who instantly
ordered a stove for their cottage
in Godshill. He loved the product

COMEDY CAVERN PROVES TO BE
A SUCCESS IN RYDE
The WIght Rock Bar in Lind Street,
Union Street, Ryde are putting on
so much that he became the Isle of
Wight agent.
Seven years on, he and Ann have
sold over 400 of the stoves and not
one has ever let them down. “We’ve
had nothing but positive feedback”
from our customers” he says.
With an open fire, up to 70% of the
heat goes up the chimney, but as
soon as a stove is fitted, the chimney
is sealed – which means the house is
warmer even before the stove’s lit.
The UK-made Clearview stoves are
so robustly built that they also burn
on very little fuel.
The stoves, which can be run on
logs or coal, are stylishly finished in
a choice of six colours and cost from
£860 to £1,500. But as Peter says,
they are a lifetime investment.
“Having one of these is a bit like
having an Aga – you have it for life!”
he says.
