Joe’s listens to
the customer
It’s become known as THE relaxed eating,
drinking and meeting place for the Island and
now Joe’s is set to become even better.
The Newport-based café bar and
restaurant has recently taken on a
complete new management team,
with the aim of making it the Island’s
top destination for adult-only eating,
drinking and relaxing.
Cavan Lowe, Operations Manager with
London-based Massive, the specialist
operator that acquired Joe’s last year,
says there are also plans to develop
a programme of special events at the
venue, from jazz and acoustic music
sessions to art exhibitions featuring local
artists.
“Our complete drive and focus is to
make Joe’s the number one destination
and meeting place for local people on the
Island” said Cavan.
He added that a recent market research
project conducted among current and
past customers of the venue had shown
that what people most loved about the
place was its diversity.
“People like the fact that friends can call
86
in for a full-blown three course meal or
just a coffee, a beer or a snack, and all sit
together without feeling uncomfortable”
explained Cavan, “and that is exactly
what we are trying to promote – a warm
and friendly adult environment that’s
welcoming to everyone over 18”.
The young new management team
who will now be working at making Joe’s
even better are manager Matthew Carey,
assistant manager Rachel Sothcott and
restaurant supervisor Tara Dasneves.
Meanwhile, long-standing chef Rob
Green will continue to produce the
traditional dishes with a modern twist
for which the venue has become popular
– which means its menus will continue to
focus on fresh local produce, and always
cooked to order.
