Pirates
take
over

Ryde!

ppley Beach was recently invaded by pirates – but nobody
minded because it was all for fun, and in aid of Shipwreck Isle,
part of the Festival of the Sea. Swashbuckling their way through
the day, buccaneers and wannabe pirates could enjoy stunt action sword
fights, cannon and firearms demonstrations, Blackbeard’s market, and
live pirate music, with extra entertainment for the young pirates.
Simon Newton, who is one of Europe’s top Jack Sparrow
lookalikes, and actually doubled for Johnny Depp in
‘On Stranger Tides’ as the character, was on hand
for visitors to have photos taken with him.
Although costumes weren’t compulsory,
many of the thousands who attended
dressed up which all added to the
atmosphere and helped make it such
a roaring success.
